Wader Feet Leaking
I was just reading the post on "The Best Breathable Waders". I read a lot about the feet in waders leaking. When I got my first pair of neoprenes I had to take them back three times because they were leaking after 4 or 5 trips. FINALLY! the guy told me to wear a pair of regular white socks over my booties. I have had a cheap pair of Hodgeman neoprenes for over 5 years. Every time I wear them I put the socks on. they still do not leak and I have used them many many times. I have even walked long distances in them.
Think about it. How do we get blisters? Maybe I should put mole skin on the bottoms of them Hey that might work!
Anyway it has worked for me.

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
I was told the same thing and stated doing it this year. I was told it is especially good to do with breathable waders. Doing this will keep the sand/small rocks from rubbing directly on your waders.

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
Exactly...It works. I have a cheap pair of hodgeman breathables. I do the same thing. So far so good out of 8 trips. If they leak there is a warranty. Back they go and eventually I will upgrade.

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
I've been using a pair of those Acorn brand polartec socks to wear over the wader booties. Granted, that's $14 (or whatever these days) more than an old ratty pair from the back of the drawer, but mine have been very durable and they aren't as "grabby" when wet compared to regular socks--so they're much easier to put on, take off, and slide in/out of my boots.

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
Ya, you got Jim into doing that... I have to buy him new socks, he already needed new socks, now he really needs new socks....... .
Now if I could get my wadder boots to stop leaking pebble rocks, we would be doing good

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
YES, wear a pair of sox over your booties, it does protect the heel area fron grinding grit. I have been doing it for seven years and it works great.
If anyone on the river asks why you are wearing sox over your booties, just tell the it helps keep you feet warm.

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
I spent yesterday afternoon with a cold wet foot.
A little patch work, an extra pair of socks, and I'm good to go next time. That makes so much sense... Thanks!

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
DSRods, do you wear wading boots or regular boots? I say that because I've never had a foot leak and have had marginal number of rocks in my boots.

Re: Wader Feet Leaking
I hesitate to add this but what the heck. If you don't want to get blisters in a hiking boot get a pair of womens knee high nylon socks and put them on next to the foot then put on regular socks. The nylon cling to your foot and the friction occurs between the socks. No blisters. If you get blisters in waders it might be worth trying.

All Wet,
I was light infantry for seven years. In the winter in Germany we would wear panty hoes to keep warm . I do not care who knows. I will tell you what. In -30+ you do not care.
