Boat project done
I'm done, now I can go fishin
After 10 years of guiding and fishing out of my '93 Alumaweld 21' SuperVee (lot's of days)
I thought "I still like the boat alot and don't want a boat payment"....So I'll fix the old war horse up.
Started last Aug. by trading out both motors...'93 Merc w/ red jet and a '96 Merc 9.9 4 stroke kicker....With a '03 Merc 200 w/ super pump and a '03 Merc 8 hp kicker....WOW what a difference the new Merc 200 w/ superpump makes
Next, after a meger Cowlitz winter run season....I was ready to continue my project....
Next came outside half paint,'03 Alumaweld graphics, inside zolotone paint w/ clear coat, new floor, seat henges, marine stereo w/ speakers, floor lights, bulge pump, uhmw on trailer side guides.... and a new Coug sticker in the bow (thanks Denney)
I think it turned out pretty good and want to thank Lawerance and Tim for thier help and TM for posting these pictures
It pay's to take care of your stuff

Re: Boat project done
Looks like it's brand new. Nice job!
How did you get the bottom half to shine so well again? I would love to do that to mine.

Hey Greg, I seem to be spending more days sidedrifting, rather than downrigging so I desided if I'm not using it....I shouldn't miss it....but dang was it handy when needed it

Re: Boat project done
I haven't mounted it because I decide to try and sell the Maxweld. Restoration won't work for me. I need 3 or 4 more feet and a deeper V.
I am notlooking forward to the payment though.

Were you tempted to paint something other than the Alumaweld graphic?
Boat looks great!

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica"> SPEAK!
What are you using for polish and how are you doing it?
I talked to the Flitz guy at the Sportsman's show and he said that the crazy 4 hour mess I was creating was all wrong...the Sheriff stopping by to ask what the heck I was doing was a clue.
The Flitz guy gave me the following instructions:
1. Clean the aluminum with oxalic acid type cleaner.
2. Use the paste Flitz.
3. Work it on with a dry cloth rubbing lightly.
4. Do the whole hull. No time limits, it can stay on.
5. Get a clean cloth. Put some flour on it. Rub off the polish, shaking the cloth out frequently.
6. Buff to a shine.
Going to try it the end of the month after all the spring fix up work is done.

I've tried most other polish with power buffer, but keep going back to Mothers & elbow grease.
Two hours, twice a year is all the polishing I do
for a mirror like finish....I think one key is to do this when boat is brand new as I did....10 years later still looks good.

Re: Boat project done
Brion, I wanted my '93 to look like a 2003'....
...thats why I went with new Alumaweld graphics.
Could have been cheaper to do something else though.
Timinthegorge,you couldn't afford me  j/k
No bare aluminum isn'tas shinney as polished,
10 years ago when I ordered my new boat, Alumaweld wanted $300.00 to polish the bottom half... so I said I'll do it myself....and I did....thats how this whole thing got started.

WOW! Great job. Super nice boat. Great color both interior and exterior.
Which Mother's paste did you use?
Mag and Aluminum polish? or something else?

Re: Boat project done
Bob,
Your boat looks fantastic. Did you paint it yourself? How about the upholstery? I'm considering the same project, but would like to know what I'm getting into before I get started. Would you have time to talk on the phone for a few?
