Default McNary Reports (Let s Hear Them)

OK,

Any reports on this fishery would be great...

The weekend is shaping up well for that area and I am definately heading over for camping & fishing to get away from the west side...

Thanks much & information appreciated.

Don't believe everything you read in the Hunting and Fishing news. In the latest edition from Washington, the article says McNary is picking up. It was at it's hottest 1.5 months ago! Of course that doesn't mean you can't catch a fish or two. But reports from my buddies say it has been slow at night. I stopped fishing it 3 weeks ago. 72 steelies, 8 salmon in 41 night trips. 11 skunk trips. My slowest year in the the last 6. Three biggest steelies, 39.5 inches, 39 inches, 38.5 inches. Springer season is coming!

I don't know who you have been talking to but it definately has been picking up during the day. Last wed. when I was out there 18 fish caught for 6 boats out. Thursady we hooked 7 fish and friday hooked two and the same on thur. Seeing some bigger fish being caught and it will just get better from here. Last year was january was the best month of all. We boated 47 fish in january above the dam, I am looking for the same this year.

Hey Fear no Fish,

I have found the Fishing & Hunting news is always a day late & a dollar short in terms of "timely information." That is why I subscribe to timely information like "The Guides Forecast," however their maps are good though.

As far as the fishing not being good at McNary, I can't hardly believe that it is as slow as some may think...Typically this time of year, there are many fish in that area to be had and I will defiantely give it a try nontheless and hopefully post a great report with lots of picturs...

Leo, the kids & I look forward to meeting you up there and having a great weekend. It is shaping up to be a good weather wise and I have a good feeling we will have a few rods getting bent down.

Its not about the kill as far as I am concerned, it will be nice to just have a couple of rods get bent down and I know with your Wiggle Wart arsenal and all your knowledge of the area, we will definatly have some opportunities.

Let those poor summer runs spawn. We prefer to beat up on em when they are edible. You guys don't actually eat those pale meat fish do you? They are not good table fare now!

Hey Fear No Fish...

So whats your point here

Harrassing fish is not on my agenda...I keep a few and if they have a fin clipped I usually bonk it on the head...I think that is why they put hatchery fish in the water.

Whats your point here, do you think those fish should be left alone this time of year no matter what????

Listen, my kids want to fish and if it is not good table fare, they go back in the water unharmed...

MY question is, did you keep all those fish you caught??? If you did release any did you "Not Harass" them when you released them...

Look, I will be on the water up there this weekend trying to enjoy a great time with a couple of special kids and the last thing I will be thinking about is harrassing any fish...

As for your report...what is it...is it the fact that maybe you just don't want anyone up there catching any fish or what...because "My Sources" tell me there are fish around...

In addition, I don't need to catch a single fish to enjoy anything...I will be happy to just enjoy my weekend on the river with a good friend, my son and his friend

I'm not speaking for FNF, but in his first post he stated he quit 3 weeks ago. The fishing was probably slowing down, but I know that once December rolls around, the summer runs just aren't that "fun" to catch (for me, and probably FNF). They're not very good to eat, the Columbia has chilled down so the fish don't fight as hard (generally), and if you've already caught a bunch of fish (like FNF has) the fishing experience isn't that great. I totally agree with him, but if it makes you happy, and it's legal, go exercise some fish! Good Luck!!!

Fear no Fish...Its all good.

Hope we get a few chances this weekend...As for the 10th, it definatley will be a good time no matter the outcome but keepers will surely make it better...otherwise several Baton awards may be awarded...

As for the Kentucky Polar Bear...he needs to definately represent by going out and breaking in that new reel prior to the 10th to make sure it is operational...

Have a great Holiday all...The Hog Hunter is off work the next 2 weeks and I think I may do a little fishing...

Dang it man!

Hoghunter - it looks like there are a few folks out there who think that they can outfish us at the sturgeon derby...

They're getting all riled up and it's still december. They're probably just sore from the can of whoop*** we been opening on them for the past few years.

I'm not too worried. We'll get our fish like we always do.

Call me when you get back from the east side. I want to go over to the wilson a few times in the next couple of weeks and also think we should do a duck hunt when the weather gets snotty!

Shawn

As for the Sturgeon tournament...this is the one on 1/10 for Ifish...

Dude you need to go to the smack thread and read all the stuff...People actually think that I don't catch fish

Maybe they are right

Don't mean to create a rif here but I just want to go and catch fish...My son & his friend who is moving to New Zealand in a couple weeks want a relaxing weekend camping and by golly that is what we are going to do.

Most people who know me, will tell you that my fish catching abilities are so poor that I need the practice anyway...so don't worry about the "Hog Hunter" I will try not to harrass too many.

I like the reputation because it is a measure of respect as I see it and if I can make a couple of kids day a better one, then that will make me happy dad & a good dad...

Take Care & tight lines...

Hog Hunter:
I was in High Desert on 12-18. I trust the info I get from those guy's and have no reason to believe they would "play it up". According to those guy's, fishing is "getting good" and the last two weeks has been the best it has been all year. There was about 25 boats up there yesterday. Most along the pilling's and near the park. I need to go baaaaaaaaaad. Also some fish being picked up off the ramp.

FNF: my thoughts are, if they have a clipped then knock em in the head. I have payed for them.

Thanks Steelie King...

I think one should just go give it a try...The guy I am meeting there tomorrow caught 2 fish yesterday and 1 was released unharmed (Native) and he said the other was a 14# chrome bright fish...This guy fishes this place hard and I am fortunate that he is taking me there because I am as green at this fishery as one can be but I do have a clue on how to do it...

It may not be what it was or it may be better as we move to January...

That is the great thing about fishing...The wind forecast is looking excellent for this weekend and I am heading there this afternoon...

I will post a report on Sunday night when I get back...

Yah, no wind for the weekend!! That different!! I was in the Oregon fish viewing window on 12-18 and saw a about a five pound nice and bright clipped fin female just looking for a plug to eat. I think see said something about hot pink being her favorite color!!

I do have a question for any of you brainiacs out there.
I had a friend catch a clipped fin fish off the shore about two weeks ago from the Oregon boat ramp. It had a transmiter in its mouth with the antenna showing. He contacted the fish & wildlife dept. and they said the fish was tagged at Ice Harbor about a 45 days ago.

I have never herd of fish going down the river. Have you????

Please accept my appology. Sorry to ever question success. I mean 1.75 fish per outing is'nt bad. I was just having a "hot flash" thinking about the fishing while I was working!!

Have a Merry Christmass and a great New Year. It's time to get the drift boat out so I'll see you when the springers arrive.

Steelie King,
No hard feelings. It sounds like we share the same dreaded disease. Cabin Fever!
If you are tired of salmonoids,
I know where there is some good walleye and perch water. MMMMMmmmmm Perch!
I can't wait for Springers though. Trying to get my warts in a row! As in Magnum Wiggle Warts. My Springer buddy just got off the phone with Rolf and Austrid of the Wind Mountain Store, He secured our spot for the months of April and May!
