Ok, looks like I am going to have to tell a story to get any respect in this place. So many to choose from...
One of my favorites is from my mid 20s. My girlfriend's father and I headed to Yale reservoir for some konanee killing and boy time. The weather was down right crappy (am I allowed to write that). We were in a 14" Alaskan Smokerkraft and the wind was blowing rain sideways across the white caps. He was a cigartte smoker at the time. As any good daughter's boyfriend, I followed his lead. It was nearly impossible to keep a cherry on a Marlboro and I kept worrying that a coal would drop off and break my line. I was a college kid (could not afford to loose any tackle). We went straight out to bouy 10 as the weather began to worsen. Dropped our lines (30 to 35 pulls, 1.5 ounces of lead, the largest gang spinners in the box, a wedding ring, and one meal worm). Could NOT keep the fish off the line! It got so bad, we started watching our poles bounce just to see how long they would drag before dropping off (about 60 seconds at best). We caught our 2 person limit in 1.5 hours while cabin cruizers headed for the launch to avoid the weather. Nobody caught anything but us. 32 fish, one request for a daughter's hand in marriage approved, we headed home. On the way a case of beer misteriously jumped into the truck. When the girls found us that afternoon, we were in the yard, boat stripped completely bare, soap suds everywhere, drunk as skunks, standing in the rain. I have no idea how how I ever sobered up or how we kept from telling the news. Today, I am proud to say I am still married to his daughter and he is my best friend. We hunt together, fish together, shoot together, etc. Those were the best smoked kokanee I have ever eaten. If you are ever looking for me, I am still fishing out of that Smokerkraft. The only difference is that now I am the owner.
I have tomorrow off if I want it. Wishing to chase springers or sturgeon on the Columbia. Plenty of ancor rope and too stupid to stay out of the weather. Any pointers on a drop point. I can figure it out from there. Just wishing to catch a fish or two. Cannot wait for drano to open up.
Thank you all for the smelt pointers. I have more than enough to make it through this summer. If you run dry, pop me a note.
