Default Bust in on the Kalama

Last Saturday while fishing the Kalama with a buddy i got my canopy busted into and they got my x 10 mc bill herzog rod and my older curado. I was parked at the first hatchery (i think only been on the river 3 times) the first pull over big parking lot past beginners hole. if anyone can help me out anything would be helpful.

For the fishing seen few caught boats did pretty well we didn't touch crap. me and my buddy been on a really bad slump.

Man sorry, really! I had my truck broken in and it really bummed me out too. I changed tactics with my truck now with a car alarm leaving nothing in the truck and nothing on the dash no matter how inconsequential. Sometimes they will break in the window even with the doors is unlocked. Hope more people can give you some more ideas to keep you fishing with less stress about your vehicle. The other option is to get a beater vehicle that costs less than your gear.
Oh, this happens on all rivers,
I only say this because the Kalama gets a bad rap sometimes.

Hope you catch the Guy, When i got stolen from i even got to fish right next to the guy, got hooked by him and even got to see what his car looked like. But of course just my luck 100 more trips on the river and still have not seen him.

I know this is no help but never leave rods and reels in the car. On the Kalama trailers, guns, rods, and reels are what some folks live on. Please dont let them feed take all your stuff with you.

Man that sucks, I think I saw you that day at modrow. My only advice is to park on the road instead of in the parking lot. That slab hole parking lot is a bad spot to leave your vehicle since it doesnt get much traffic

A better idea would be for some fisherman to set up some stings....And per AUP policy here I would have to recommend they turn the thief's over to the proper authorities

All to common an occurrence on the kalama, I wish the Cowlitz county sheriff had the man power to set up stings but unfortunately they don't. As a property owner up on the Kalama I know the pain of break ins, cabin has been broke into many Times as have my neighbors. On the upper river we have a very good neighborhood watch system going on to try and deter all this garbage. Most of us have cameras to get pictures of trespassers and thieves. We have been successful in catching at least three so far. Hopefully the lower river area can start being more vigilant of people down there, I know I watch closely every time up and down the road to keep an eye out for suspicious people. Everyone just keep a good eye out on the kalama and any river now days and report suspicious behavior. Don't mess with them yourselves as tempting as it is, one of my neighbors was almost run over last year trying to confront one. He was lucky and only got knocked down.

You should go on a ride along and see if they care or not. Better yet maybe take the test and try and make a difference.

I always park on the road above the slab parking lot and here's what I've got out of it. Two years ago my trailer was stolen and three weeks ago the back door on my Tahoe was dented by some clown, who decided to chuck a Mike's hard lemonade bottle while traveling down Kalama River Road. Cost of repair is $960.00, so I don't recommend parking anywhere near the 1400 block of that area. The sheriff's office arrested a ******* the next day on Todd road after he tried to run into a patrol vehicle and guess what they found on the floor of his vehicle? You guessed it, a bottle of Mike's hard lemonade. No response from the sheriff's department.

Thats exactly why they need good people to get in the profession. We can all be part of the problem or part of the solution. Or we can just complain about things we don't know about. I've never been a Doctor so I wouldn't pretend to know medicine, why would anyone think they would know how to do police work if they've never done it?

If they cared so much then why is this such a common occurance on the Kalama? Its been common for years. The only time you ever see a cop he is sitting doing speed checks in town. It is well known that there are several meth dealers on the river and nothing is done. Mr. Smith do you live on the river or know the cops in the area?

Cowlitz county sheriffs office is like many other small departments stretched thin. Everyone thinks thier issue is the biggest. I have had dealings with them because of the break ins at my place and they have always been great. If you have confirmed evidence meth dealers up there keep calling the sheriff. I suspect a couple people up there are dealing but that doesn't do anything for the sheriffs office they can't just walkin on someone's suspicion. I know one of the guys we busted for trespassing has a history of it and has been arrested a few times also. I would love for things to be cleaned up up there, not sure what the answer is. Great river ruined by some dopers stealing people's stuff.

Seems like it would be easier altogether to fish somewhere else, i mean its not like the k is the only river in close proximity.

I think citizens should be able to opt out of certain services, for instance.

You could designate that you don't ever want police help but you want fire and medical. That way if someone breaks into your home in the middle of the night they can pick you up after the suspect is through.
