Dick O\'Brien
Sad news to report...
Dick O'Brien died of a heart attack at home Friday. Services at the Wasco United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Thursday, I think...
Dick was a walleye specialist and a salmon and steelhead guide in the central columbia area...also one of the nicest people in the business...

Re: Dick O\'Brien
My sincere thoughts are with his family as well. Good guy. Got my first Columbia River Walleye with Dick in 1995.

Re: Dick O\'Brien
I caught my first John Day Steelhead on a trip with Dick. He met us for breakfast and always bought lunches to pack as part of his service.
He was always pleasant and considerate to other fishermen as well.
Really a good man and will be missed.

Re: Dick O\'Brien
Sad day for the fishing industry. :depressed:
I too have had great loss this past few weeks. First my mother-in-law, died the 7th from cancer, and I found out my ex-husband died monday. :depressed: He had a heart attack at work, I have been just devistated. I really don't know what to do or who to turn to . I just want this month to get over with, so I can get out there and do some fishing. Get my mind off the losses and get with the gains.

Re: Dick O\'Brien
My most sincere condolences go out to Dick's family. He was a credit to the industry. He always took time out to speak to me and my friends answering our walleye questions at the sportsmans show. This year we teased together in the last minutes of the show on Sunday because he had made it thru the entire week without becoming hoarse, which is what had happened to him the previous year. We will miss him greatly.

Re: Dick O\'Brien
I will never forget Dick. Me and my father in law sturgeon fished with him on the day of the springbreak quake. We were standing in the little bait house at the fishery early that morning when it happen. And we did catch our 1st keepers that day. The next day we walleye fished below the Johnday Dam and we caught our 1st walleye ever. These reasons alone are enough to never forget Dick. But I also learned alot from him on how to catch fish those two days and also at the seminars he spoke at.
We will miss him and our thoughs are with his family.

Re: Dick O\'Brien
I never fished with Dick, but he certainly was an excellent example of a professional in every sense of the word. He was always so helpful and interested in what you were asking him whether you were a regular client or not. Our prayers go out for his family and those around them. :depressed:

Re: Dick O\'Brien
So very sad. Dick was a real gentleman and a great fisherman. He would always take time to say hello and talk to me. We were always going to go out but after he moved to eastern Oregon, I never made it. He would always share any information that he had and where the best Walleye places were.
God bless and keep you Dick. I will always remember you. :depressed:

Re: Dick O\'Brien
Very sad news. I met Dick on the MC years ago. Open and honest. Which is rare in anyone. Super nice fellow. We traded spots at the sportsman show a couple years later. He remembered me.

Re: Dick O\'Brien
We will all miss Dick. He was one of the best. What I really loved about Dick was that he was always willing to give information (even on his favorite spots). I'm really glad that I got to speak with him at the Sportsman's Show for about a half hour. He was a true gentleman, and a credit to his profession. We will all miss him, and our prayers go out to his family. Fishrite
