Default Sat/Sun afternoon Clack mouth (updated)

The Willamette is still running the color of chocolate milk, though it is starting to get that twinge of moss green that might be seen eminating from your average diehard duck fan's underarms.

Even so, there are a few boats running in the bigger river today, including a soloist backtrolling over my submerged land as I write this. Not sure why, unless he is trying to capture a bit more of TFG's Opal GT. Like the steering wheel!

But there are a few boats working the mouth of the Clack and while I haven't seen any action, there is a big crowd at the blacktop in Dahl Park too.

But the most action I see is the 8, count'em 8 pickups and dudes with saws getting rid of this:

There is still lots there, but they have put a dent in it yesterday and today.

If you need wood, get it while the gettin's good in Clackamette!

Ahh, geez northriver1, I read this too late! I just got back from taking my daughter out to dinner in Corvallis. I coulda met you for a wood transfer too!

Oh well, guess I'll just give it all away now.

BTW, the Willamette looks pretty green in Corn Valley. It should start fishing good here about Monday or Tuesday...

reeldick and I put in this morning at Barton only to find the Willie had apparent motor trouble. Just would not get up on plane for all sorts of effort. It would go in gear (forward and reverse) and would get Rs but would not pop up out of the hole.

So we trailered the boat and came home. Unloaded everything, washed the boat and three rigs, then took off the kicker in anticipation of taking it to the shop tomorrow. It was just sitting in the driveway when I looked and decided the just didn't seem to be anything obviously wrong.

My son and I loaded a couple vests back into the sled and ran across to Clackamette to launch again just to see.

Sure enough, she ran like a top in full spin! D'OH!!!!!

I realized this morning I never did actually do one basic thing when we were having the trouble. Because the current was heavy I never actually TURNED THE MOTOR OFF. There must have been a simple obstruction like a piece of plastic over at least part of the grate, which must have dropped off once we got the boat on the trailer and turned the motor off.

Well, the news is;

1) The boat and rigs are clean.
2) I just talked to reeldick via cell who ran up to Dog Creek and now back to Barton to fish from the bank and the live report is no fish caught and no fish seen for lots of bankies. Didn't miss much there it seems...
3) Spoke with a couple guys taking out at Clackamette and they said they only saw one fish caught off the bank by Meldrum. Seems no one else has done much today.
4) I paid forward a favor for a new pleasure boat owner who was about to launch his new toy at Clackamette but had pulled down the inside lane (and the piling current is not pretty today so I warned him to take the outside lane) but could not launch until I gave him an extra plug I had in the Willie. Seems he had forgotten his. At least he noticed prior to launch, and he took my advice on the lane change.

Do not try to launch at Clackamette in the inside lane when it is running like today!

Oh well, with all the money I saved on boat repair I think I'll got get a new futon matress for that couch in my office. Redbull so wants to come over to nap there in the afternoons!!

I love fuzzy math!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, there was flotilla after flotilla from Barton down. We counted about 6 boats at Barton that had started down, then counted 6 at Carver, saw 6 more around Coffee, and counted about 6 in the Riverside area. The mouth had 6 boats anchored when I took the test run this afternoon.

Six rigs sawing wood too. Must be a day for 6s!
