Default summer steelhead photo thread

I'm not seeing a lot of summer steelhead photos posted so I thought I would start a thread since I like seeing them as much as the next guy.

He is a fish I got a few days ago on the sandy

One of my favorite pictures, this is the 6 year old son of a friend and me holding up a fish he just landed all by himself. It was one of 3 he hooked on the fly that evening....and the only one that he landed

The size ten Double-Hook Red Ant pictured in my avatar has accounted for a bunch of them over the years

Thats a good photo and story. An Alaska guide was telling me once that the most impressive thing he ever saw was a 5 year old boy fishing with his grampa that landed a steelhead with basically a toy superman rod and reel. I couldn't stop laughing when the visual came into my mind.

If that's the Rogue, that's a heck of a nice summer steelhead.

Had to redeem myself from last week after losing my head, tip, and half the running line when a fish wrapped me around a midstream rock....not this time. Likely could have used a dry line but lots of traffic on the river yesterday so I opted to go subsurface.

A 30" hatchery taken on July 1st using a summer leech pattern - I don't use these often this time of year, but at least I know it will get their attention. This fish had some shoulders.

I actually have not personally caught a fish in a while. Swung this fish out of my drift boat this afternoon! Eating it soon.

No photos but went 1 for 2 on the Willamette Sunday Dexter to Jasper... a 27.5" hen to the cooler and lost a real hot bruiser when the 8lb tippet broke at the bloodknot. Fish went apeshit!

Good times. Thanks to Holyhogmoly for the beta, really appreciated.

No doubt! We talked about it afterwards... I had actually grabbed my friends rod, which had caught the hen, since my 12'6" spey just wasn't the tool at the moment, but this was a whole new level...that hen just burrowed down and kept her nose to the gravel....but this brute....STOP! HAMMERTIME!!!

Now, Travis, who owned the rod, was very gracious, blaming it on the bloodknot, I'll say that to be honest, there was a split second, after the first surface explosion but before the second, where the line was pretty much tight to the cork...and I mean a split second before this brute unloaded his second rolling thrashing explosion, where I "could" have lightened up on the line and let it go to the reel....but i'm talkin' a split second here.

But what a split second! Stoke was at all time high, hands shaking, laughter and exclamations rolling after a split second between a couple hours of fishing well.

Well, that's what it's all about my friend! Finding 'em is half the battle. Whether you user surgeons knots and maxima UG or not it's a 50/50 deal. Getting beat is what you remember and makes you better...and keeps bringing you back for more.

The problem with getting good at hooking and fighting fish is, its the thing we want to practice the most but actually get to practice the least. :-) I wish I had a few second chances at some I have lost.

I assume that is a fish that originated above Pelton/Roundbutte due to the max clip.

That was the one and only, the rest no max clip, as of this year checking the adipose fish as well.

Roger, over and out until next week

Thought I would freshen up the photo thread.
The way this fished smashed my fly is the reason I get up at 4 am and drive miles and miles and spend hours casting and stepping and swinging. This thing scared the crap out of me. Caught on an orange hobo spey and a sink tip in bright 10am morning sun.

Nice fish Sam. Are you seeing a good/comparable ratio of B runs this year compared to last year?

Here are a few pics from past couple of days. Fishing was a bit short of 'hot' but we did manage to hook several and all were hot rods. The first pic is of a very large Deschutes stray that was headed presumably to Idaho. This toad about folded my Winston 6126 in half!

That top fish is a brute. Her name must be Gertrude or Hildagard or something like that.

A couple from a few weeks back. I was pleasantly surprised that every fish I caught on a three day camping trip was native.

We have been seeing a lot of fish over 30", more than last year for sure. We are also seeing a tougher September than last year...back to reality I guess.

I just got back to earth, I'll post a few more pics later today.
