Re: Stained water affect sturgeon bite ?
I don't think it makes a difference. Sturgeon are attracted by scent more than sight. I have been out on days when the Willamette was flowing muddy brown and had no problem hooking fish in the dirty water where it entered the Columbia. The dirty water can extend all the way down to the "32" marker on some days before it clears.

Look for that seam where the muddy water meets the clear water and see what that does for you!

Re: Stained water affect sturgeon bite ?
The stained water, IMO, brings the fish up in large numbers to feed. When there is significant rainfall, runoff carries nightcrawlers, bugs, floater spawned out fish and other edible debris into the river system.
As was pointed out above, look for places where the mud flows into clear water. Almost every river delta on the lower Columbia is an example. The sturgeon will stack up in the first deep hole below or even at the point where the mud flows into the Columbia from the tributary.
When it is high and muddy, use a worm on your rig and watch what happens.

Re: Stained water affect sturgeon bite ?
I dunno....I'm not a sturgeon expert...but it seems the more dirty the water is the lesser the bite is.
Probably shouldn't have been out there on some days it seems. But then again, one can have days like that in clear water too.
Nevermind.
