Default TR-1 Auto Pilot, Input wanted

I am looking at a TR-1 trolling motor autopilot system. Sounds to good to be true.
Anyone have one and care to brag or complain about it??
I sure would appreciate the input before laying out the money.

I have the Minn Kota Autopilot on my 14ft and it's awesome. I never liked trolling because it requires so much of your attention. Now the only thing I have to worry about is running into the bank or another boat. When I hook one I just turn the motor off and the Autopilot continues to point the motor in the direction I was traveling reguardless of which way the boat is drifting. Turn the motor back on and I'm back to trolling in the same direction I was going.

It's GREAT!

Anyone used the Raytheon sportpilot? It attatches to the steering wheel and will therefore work on the main and the kicker if they are tie-rodded together...

My only suggestion is if you intend on connecting it to your GPS have them do it and test it. Some GPS systems don't communicate with the TR-1 right out of the package. It may need some software update.

Other than that, it is a great product and great service. Would not have a boat without one now that I have used it.

I have one and would highly recommend the system. There is nothing better trolling along, sitting in the heat under the canvas while you are fishing out of the weather.

The TR-1 people are great, if you have any kind of problem they get right on it for you. Top notch product and top notch service!

Over all a great system. I had mine installed the first week of January and don't have alot of hours on it yet, but so far has been a great tool.

The service issue is what I have been most impressed with . Not only did they go with me on the initial run to calibrate the system, they are making a trip back to PDX this weekend to do some fine tuning and to help with my GPS set up.

If you can justify the $$$$ buy it !! You won't be sorry.

I always hear how great the tr-1 auto pilot units but what draw backs do you see with these units. Every product has limitations. I am considering adding one of these units to my sled but need some justification. After I have a bunch of information I will plea my case to the Boss. Im not a very good skipper so I need all the help I can get.

One other thing that I forgot to mention about the system that I used today. When fishing on anchor and it is windy I run my kicker in reverse and put the TR-1 in reverse mode. It keeps me from moving in the wind. Holds the boat pretty darn straight. I have had people give up fishing by me because the wind was so bad but I had no problem on my boat because of the TR-1!
