I hear tale of anglers having over 20 fish days last week while fishing hatchery runs on a few rivers of the Olympic Peninsula. I know three anglers that fished four of five days during a trip last week and hooked over 150 Steelhead and landed nearly 100 of them.

It was said to be combat fishing much as the NFN at the hatchery, but a good trip to run your numbers up and run chromers through the smoker for the holidays.

I hear the fish would come by in waves, the rods would throb as lice laden chromers could be seen breaking the surface as they went by, all on their way to the capture pens on a feeder creek just upstream.

These are the trips that dreams are made of and most Steelhead Fishermen only hear of while sitting on a stool in some lonley tavern waiting for their river to clear after the recent monsoon.

These are the trips we must all make!
This was the trip I just returnd from!

My wife gave me my Christmas present in the form of fishing tokens and I have cashed them in.

Oh: I better go check the smoker.

MasterCaster,

Was that you with your girlfriend I was talking to you asking how you were doing on Saturday? If that was you, you said you had only one more spot on your tag this season, and you were using a red corkie.

O'fer so far. Doesn't help much that I only fish 1 day a week and that day seems to coincide with a monsoon. Saw the river rise 2' on Saturday while I was out.

I did manage to catch a bunch of leaves, branches, tree limbs, etc.....

Still fun though

I've had to edit my original post after fishing today.

Make that 8 hooked, 3 winters landed. I got a nice 10 pound fat ultimate chrome hen today on a clown corkie with baby pink yarn, with Marie's sticky shrimp scent!!! Thanks again to Marie's Sticky Shrimp Scent!!!

Side note, my buddy landed a 22 pound chinook today. His first ever fish, and he released it, as it was bronzy chrome . He lost two winters also, as they both broke his line, the fiesty devils.

Two. One on the Wilson on a plug, and one on the K on a jig.

Caught a couple on the JD just before Thanksgiving.

Did a couple of trips on the N. Coast but caught Nooks instead of Steelies... Water has been too high to go on my other free days...

Plenty of time left and it won't be long...I am giving the East side a try this weekend again (McNary)...

Tight lines.

I've never caught a winter steelhead under 17 lbs. on a fly.
