Default Berkley 10\' 6" 2-8 Air IM7's @ FMS

Just picked myself up a 10'6" Air IM7 at Fishermans today  . When did these rods come out? Think they would make a great Float rod for $58

I'm happy for you and your new acquisition  . Just a question to you and everyone else...How does the sensitivity of the IM7 rods compared to an equivalent Lami Rod?

I personaly have'nt used a Lami nore do I own one. I do have 4 of the Berkley IM7's and really like them. Although my Loomis IMX 1084c blows them away. But look at the price of the Berkley's, and what you get. I think their the best rod on the market for $58. I do plan on getting a Lami this summer.

I had a Lami G1000/Curado combo that I loved, but lost it when I hurled myself over a cliff into the drink a few years back. Since then, I have use my cruddy back-up...getting sick of it. Thinking about picking up an IM7 since they're about half the price of a G1000. Although I's really like a GL3...decisions, decisions. Thanks for the input.

The Berkley #8-12 is a pretty senitive rod. Can't go wrong for the price.

Your new rod will fish floats just fine. I use mine with jigs up to 1/4 ounce. I'd recommend staying at or below 8 pound test line, though.

These rods are very forgiving. You'll be surprised how large a fish you can land with light line on one of these.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I own several Lamiglas rods and a few Berkleys and it is like comparing a Corvette to a Kia. In a bobber fishing rod sensitivity is not important, length and backbone are. In a drift rod sensitivity is very important. For me the Berkley's just don't cut it.

I am personally looking to get away from using such a light rod for all my bobber and jig fishing applications. I have a 9'6" Lamiglas G1000 spinning rod with the canadian style handle on it. It is rated 4-10 lb line. Last winter during the ifish steelhead challenge I lost a brute of a steelhead due to too lite of a rod for the water I was fishing.
I have also had several other "noodle" rods and lots of bad experiences with them. They are great for lite, low clear water conditions but when the rivers are flowing at wintertime levels save yourself some frustration and go with a heavier rod.

Oregon Redside, Go with the GL3, you will not regret it. I have several driftrods but my GL3's are my go to rods. GL3 and a Shimano Curado BSF and you have a match made in Heaven.

Hey Tanner,

Want me to post the video of you losing that fish?

I talked to James at FMS and he said they are Berkley Air IM-7 10.5' 4-10# bobber rods.

I have a 9ft 2 piece 15-50 heavy action and I love it. I have used it fishing out of my tin can. Both k-fish and woblers. It worked great. I landed a 30# nook this fall on it. I think that the berkley im7 rods are a great value. Good luck with yours.

Cartman,
I agree with you as far as the 15-50 lb rods. Ihave 4 of them and they work well for chinook and sturgeon fishing, however their drift rods just don't have the sensitivity that I like to feel in a drift rod.

Safety Chain,
Sure go ahead and post it. You may have to do some sound editing on the part where I lost the fish.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I have had that same rod for about 2 years now.

I think they are great rods for the price, good float rods and good boat rods. But, they do break a little too easy.

I think I want to hear the story about when OregonRedSide "hurled" himself off of a cliff and ended up in the drink. What do you say ORS??

How big of a fish do you think one of these will handle? I had one in my hand yesterday and it felt really flimsy. I understand physics and all but I would hate to hook a mid teens steely on one of those. another thing I looked for one a little heavier but could only find the 2-8 is this all they make?

Just looked on their web site today, and yes, it looks like that is the only one they make at that length. I think it should handle a pretty big Steelie with no problem, as long as you don't horse it. I've heard of people bringing in springers with this lite of a rod. I'd like to see that fight.
