Default Tying sturgeon leaders?

I have always tied the non-sliding version of an egg loop (like you would use for a no slip herring rig) when tying sturgeon leaders. But, I have found the knot to be a bit on the big side, and it tends to destroy my smelt as I pull it through.
Does anyone have a bette knot to use? pics?
Thanks.

Double Polomar. It's a 100% strength knot, so it will not slip or break at the knot. You can find instructions on how to do it I'll edit a site in if I find it. You make a look in your line, pass it through the eye, pass it through again, tie a sqaure knot, pass the hook through the loop, wet and pull tight, I'll look for better instructions.
Edit for link Power Pro knot
Also, in the future, the search function is a great way to find general info like this!

An easy fix is to not thread the smelt. I tie a standard egg loop out of 100# dacron. Just run the hook up from the bottom of the head (between the gills) and out the center of the skull between the smelt's eyes. The lay the hook shank down along side the smelt (or tilting upwards, depending on how you want the hook point to sit), and half hitch away. It's quick, keeps the smelt on, and hooks fish!

I've been using a knotless leader. Take a darning needle and thread it through the center of the dacron for about 2 inches. Works like the woven handcuffs you used to put on your fingers. Works great if you are threading your smelt.
