TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
My 5 month old N.R. Seahawk took the brunt of a very large oak tree that fell from lastnights freak snow storm.
The brunt of the impact was directly on top of the 225 Yamaha, the skeg is presently buried into the asphalt crunching the propeller. The engine is on an offshore bracket, and the bow of the boat is standing 45 degrees up off the trailer. I can see no actual visual damage to the hull, but am concerned there could be some internal damage to the structure of the boat. If so, I will insist on a new boat. Hopefully, the engine will be the only part in need of replacement. What do you think the liklihood of structural damage from what I have described?
....what a day....

Re: TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
Sorry to hear about your boat. You could probably pull the floor boards and check out the welds on the strigers etc. Also check to make sure everything is in line and not tweaked. The factory ought to be able to help you out. You could go all out and xray the welds to be sure.
Again, sorry to hear about your boat, but at least you weren't in it.

Re: TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
Man, I'm south of you 30 miles and got pummeled too by the storm. Big branches and trees came down all around my house. A madrone missed my drift boat by 20 feet. Too close.
Sorry to hear about yours...

gimmeumpqua,
Very sorry to hear about your boat. What ever you do, get pics of the boat the exact way you found it. Take lots of pics from lots of angles and close ups. It will help your insurance carrier process your claim much quicker and without the hassles you might encounter.
Again, sorry to hear about the trouble, but it sounds like no one got hurt and that is always a plus!

Re: TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
For what you have in terms of cash in the boat, go to extremes to document it. Get lots of pics and take video of it before you do anything else. You might even have your insurance agent come out and look at it. Then, take your boat back to the manufacturer to have the damage evaluated.
I hope everything works out for you.

Sorry to hear about the boat. I agree that you cannot have too much documentation.
Post a pic if you get the chance.

Re: TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
I'd say the stress tweaks or damage would be around the transome most likely, but be thorough, check it well and mak sure you do not accept the claim from the insur. company till you are satisified.

Re: TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
Very sorry to hear about your boat :depressed: One thing to keep in mind is that, if the boat is repaired through the insurance company it might be labeled as wrecked or damaged. This might show on the title and will reduce the resale value. They do this to cars as well. You can get them to pay you for the "anticipated loss of value". I hope this helps ya.

Re: TREE SMASHES MY BOAT rats
GimmeUmpqua,
Documentation is extremely important! Ampersat raised a valid point by saying "take your boat back to the manufacturer to have the damage evaluated." I was in a similar situation just last year. The insurance company recommended a few places to get the damage evaluated/fixed. I went to a few they all said they could fix the damage. Then I decided, I would drive 120miles to Springfield, OR and have the manufacturer assess the damage. Within minutes he evaluated the damage and declared the trailer unsalvageable. I had a new trailer in two weeks.
