Default Eeeewwwwwww!!!! Help! Can anyone top this???

Okay, 2 bags of smelt left in small bait cooler for 2 months! Can anyone top that? I smelled a faint "rotten" smell in the garage but thought that it was from a slightly bloody tarp from a January cow hunt but it wouldn't go away. Found it when I pulled the boat out to run the motors for a bit. Most people would have chucked the whole thing but I don't like to throw away something I can salvage. I am presently soaking the inside in a bleach solution. Will that do the trick? If not, what should I do?

Also, just curious, can anyone top this for all-out grossness?

Thanks,
Biederboat

Crab water in the cooler for a couple of weeks. OMG!

Baking soda scrub works pretty well. Clean and fresh. Bleach if you have to.

In high school we were pretty stupid we were up on the cowlitz one day smelt dipping, taking more than we needed, yeah young and stupid. Well we were driving I-5 bact to vancouver and decided to start throwing the extra smelt out the windows at the front of the car to see if we could get one stuck on the wind shield, well that failed but we managed to get one on to the radiator and the heater core and one stuck on the vent, well because we were driving my best friends parents car we just left them, about 3 months later when the weather started warming up they were raging mad. It is the only time in my life i have ever seen his dad mad. It smelled horrible in that car and it is still there till this day. In stead of buying my friend a car they just gave it to him and they bought one for themselves. I think back and wonder what we were thinking when we pulled that stunt.

A chest freezer out in the gargagg (sic) with about 3/4 of a venison, a few other choice items, freezer got unplugged somehow. (Hard to say- was back in the College/roomate days) It was obviousley unplugged for a long long time.
Never could get the stink out and ended up trashing the entire freezer. I'll never forget that smell the first time I opened the lid!

one summer my sister left her VW van parked at our house for a couple of months, and being the trouble making brothers we were (all 5 of us). we thought it might be funny to start hiding various parts of our left over catches you know the mess of perch that your going to clean when you get home. but when your ages 12-17 that clean the fish time can be forgoten. so for a month or so her van became the dumping ground for anything less than 12"... boy did we get a beatin when dad caught wind of it literaly. the look on her face was worth all the spankin and being grounded.

8 Sand Shrimp in a Jeans Jacket?? I hope you atleast had them in a container.

How about this. My boat before the Green Machine needed the floor replaced when I bought it. So, the following weekend my Dad and I tackled the project. Pulled up the old, rotten floor to find, a grand total of: two under sized crabs, a cut plug herring (I think it was cut plug???), and a pair of well used Whitey Tightys!! I won't tell you which smelled the worst.

I left a dead wigeon in my boat for about 2 months. It was out in the rain, and of course the drain hole plugged with leaves. A nice big, fat floating ball of maggots.

BTW, if bleach doesn't do it, toss it.

Doing electrical work on the house last spring. left one curcuit out cause we didn't know where it went to.

Found out by the smell when October came around. A whole 8 Cubic Foot freezer, unplugged for 7 months, with packs of smelt, packs of herring, packs of OLD sand shrimp and prawns. Salmon Eggs, and two lower shelves of SHAD.

Thank God I have a friend that has no scence of smell

Another chest freezer full of Venison and Elk but mine didn't get unplugged. Just decided to retire without telling me!

Bleach! Takes the smell out of anything.
I've saved many a ice chest, plastic crab bait totes, etc. It'll work!

Today out on the river with Fishingxtc, Big&brite and Lucky Luke I found a bunch of shrimp that and fallen down in between the plastic cases in my canvas tackle bag. All day the guys where complaining of a bad stink and we couldn’t figure out it was until I went looking for a diver and found the nasty little buggers in the bottom of my bag. They had fallen in there on our trip down the clack Tuesday so you can imagine how good they smelled. Thank god I had a stuffed up nose and could only smell a little or I may have tossed my lunch I know the guys on the boat almost did.

I just saw two almost emtpy jars of eggs and a container that has about 10 sand shrimp in it sitting in my brother garage this afternoon. Seems as though I miss placed them back in mid-November. The jars are sealed, so they don't stink, but I cold smell the shrimp. It's a wonder he hasn't said anything yet.
I didn't say a word about them, I just left them sit. He'll figure out where the smell is coming from eventually. Love ya brotha!

My cousin and I during our Maui summer adventures, left some of our prawns and squid in my Dad's trunk one morning. Needless to say, when he got home that night after a day in the Lahaina sun he was not happy with the odor or us. We kinda wondered why we ran out of bait so soon. Good thing good ole' gramps gave us a lift home earlier.

A package of hearing in my buddies driftboat sat for 1 week in the sun. It mysteriously wound up in my A**hole bosses desk for the weekend. Wewwww boy that office stunk. Also some Lindberger cheese mysteriously wound up in the heater vent of his company rig over that very same weekend. I've never seen that shade of facial reddness before, kinda scared me. And he never found out who did it.

I was over in boise and my friends and I were going to go catfishing in the Snake.Had radios in the two rigs and Kieth called me and wanted to know if I had a bucket with me. I did not ,but just as luck would have it I saw one laying in the ditch beside the road. I radioed him and he picked it up and start back down the road to the river. It was in the summer and about 104 degrees. The bucket was one of those 5 gal ones with a removable lid.As Kieth and his friend proceeded down the road, His buddy got the lid off the bucket and it had something in it that he figured was chicken guts that been in the bucket for God only Knows. After stopping and barfing a bit they did continue on to the river. His truck cab reeked for a couple of weeks after that.He claims to this day that I set him up, but it was THE LUCK OF THE BUCKET!!!

Last summer I found an very soft weeks old dungy crab that had crawled under the rear deck while I was cleaning the boat. I scooped it up and simply dropped it on the ground next to the boat.

I didn't know my big dog had rolled in the dead crab and was covered in the goo. When my wife pulled in the driveway, he ran up to her and started rubbing against her legs when she stopped to talk to me.

INSTANT GAG REFLEX kicked in on her and she lost her lunch. The dog got three baths over the next couple of days before he was allowed back in the house. It took that long for me to get back in to!

My dad had this bucket of shad that was a few weeks old and had been sitting in the sun. He puts in the side yard next to the garbage can. I come home from school one day and I accidently left the gate open. And our dog abby proceded to eat the entire bucket of shad! We figured out that she ate it bacause she was barfing for a little while after that and the shad was all gone. She isn't the sharpest tack either.

It was maybe three years ago at Chinook Landing in late August. After pulling the boat up to tie it down, I like to park in front of the garbage cans if I can, I see a perfectly good 38qt. cooler sitting by the cans and I can see that the plug is still good so I might want the thing to replace the one I have with a broken plug. So I give the cooler a little push with my toe to see if it has any weight to it, it does. So I reach out with my toe from as far away as I can to lift the lid to take a peek, inside this cooler, from what I can see, is about a third full of writhing maggots! Couldn't see what they had eaten or were eating and didn't want to either!
biederboat,
I've also left the smelt in the small cooler, as long as it's the hard plastic kind and not foam just put a cup or more of bleach in the thing, fill it to the top with water close and latch the lid and set it in the yard somewhere and give it a slosh eveycouple of days and it will be fine in a week or two.

I left beef stew in a thermos from the end of one elk season to the beginning of the next. Quite a suprise when I opened that up!

I did not know that beef stew could grow hair.

Well I'm not sure what's worse, my rotten bait cooler or reading all of these! I think the dog rolling in the dead crab takes top honors here although some of those freezers full of yuck give me the shivers.

I'm pinning my hopes on bleach right now.

Had a local chicken farmer butcher 60 chickens one day and gave me all the guts (I wanted them for starting some bear baits). Took it all to my Dad's house along with a freezer I had gotten from someone else. Put the guts into 2 trash bags and stuffed them in the freezer in my Dad's shed. I ran an extension cord from the shed to the side of his house and plugged it in. I forgot to tell him what I had done though. He noticed the extension cord out and unplugged it and rolled it up at the door of the shed (this is all in July). 3 weeks later he and his wife are smelling something bad but can't figure it out. My Dad goes out the next Saturday morning and can see flies swarming around the shed. As he gets closer he can see something oozing out the bottom door of the shed and onto the sidewalk. It seems that as the chicken parts warmed, the bags swelled and forced the freezer door open. Dad tried to call me to come clean the mess and I was out of town fishing. I came home to about 50 messages on the machine from him, and a few from my stepmom. They were pretty 'excited'. Needless to say, the freezer stunk for about a year. I had to clean it with bleach (3 different times) and packed it full of charcoal and baking soda for about 3 months and I finally got rid of MOST of the smell. Then I gave the freezer away

It is always bad when the bait fridge goes bad. My current bait fridge is ok, the last one went out last summer. I made the mistake of opening it .....gag huck gag..... ! I just just backed up the truck put it in the back and hauled it to metro. Best 15 bucks I spent! Some of the jucies leaked out I went to a water bib and sprayed it off before I went home and could smell it there for other half of the summer. I feel sorry for the guys at metro bulldozing it.

The other day I noticed an old salmon carcass that one of the dogs had drug up into the lawn. It was covered in maggots, and hatched flies. I meant to bury or burn it, but was in a hurry.

I mean, this thing was old... nearly decomposed.

So, that night, I had fresh sheets on the bed, clean linen, etc.... I crawl into bed. Ahhh nothing like clean sheets and bed after a long day!

Downstairs, I hear Bill open the door to let the dogs in. Kilchis comes running up the steps and bounds onto the bed.

I'm laying down, reading a book, the covers laid back, as I haven't gotten totally in bed yet.

Pretty soon, I smell something really, really raunchy.

Kilchis has the salmon carcass on the bed, maggots and all!

So much for clean sheets.

These are the pleasures of living on the river with dogs.

A friend suffered a loss in the divorce wars.

He went out to the bait freezer for some shad to use on a crab trip. Well, lets just say the freezer went to the dump shortly after that.

At some previous time it had been unplugged. Nothing ages quite like shad ..........
