Default Good tides for springer floatilla

Went though the tide charts and only found Sat. April 5 with a 6:20 am high and 3:25 pm low at St. Helens.

This would give us time to do the bbq afterwards.

Anyone see any others that might work?

Giz...

Giz, thanks for looking into this. I may be the pessimist here, but I think we may want to look at late March. Two reasons for this, first most of the Willamette fish are supposed to peak in mid-March (5 year fish). Also if the upriver run and/or the Willamette run fizzles out, they will shut down the CR around the end of March or early April.

Looking at St. Helen's tides:
Sat Mar 22nd has a 714am high and a 420pm low.

Just my .02

Either sounds good. The BBQ would work better on the earlier low. I really don't think were going to have an issue with a March closure. I think it will hold out until the May 15th closure.

Keep the faith!

I dunno, the Willamette fish are "supposed' to peak in mid-March, but we would be relying on the fish guessers and in the past it's kinda a ghost town for fish then.
April 5 would be traditionally be an "on fire" date.
I'll fish 'em both, just let me know when we eat and where to pick up my prize.

March 22 is the start of spring break in Oregon. If anyone is traveling with their kids that week, they won't be able to make it.

Either date is fine Giz. The outcome will be the same. CROW will be served and eaten. I already have the paper plates in the boat and a Mr. Crow Trophy to boot (thanks to Snapshot).

Gizmo,
You should do a poll and ask which date is prefered. Then go with the date that gets the most support. I personally would go for the April 5th date!! Just my 2 cents worth.

Hey Giz!!
I would suggest that it be no later than the April 5th date. Last year we had it on April 13th, that was the day they opened the flood gates for the annual smolt flush. Sure put a crimp on the fishing. You and I were out on the 11th with Dad, the flow was down and we had a decent day. Other than that it don't matter to me, I'll be there!!!
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

You set the date, I'll be there this year, unless I don't get a boat trailer, or my truck fixed by then.

I've always favored the april dates for good fishing. It also lets me procrastinate on taxes.

That said, I can make either date.

I hope to see you @ the Flotilla. It's been a while since the Chehalis Flotilla last October.

I'd have to agree with Talons on this. Last two weeks of April...HOT!

What ever you pick is great tho, Giz. Looks like my work schedule will actually allow me to be at this one.

I want to remind you all of the very low snowpack in our Mtns. The later we go into the season, the lower the flows will become, and the warmer the water will get. Everyone knows the Salmon don't bite well in warm water. My prediction is for warm water by the middle to end of April, 60 degrees +. I hope I'm wrong, but if you remember our last El-Nino year in 1993, the April bite for Springers was terrible, due to low flows and warm water. Just my humble opinion!!

I vote for March 29th. Late enough for the run to be going well, early enough for the water to be in a good temperature, and Mama has that day off from school.
