Default Anchor fishing for Columbia Steelhead?

I have been trying my luck at steelhead on small rivers for over three years without a fish. I have been with a few great people from ifish who seem to always catch fish and who know what they are doing....including Zaq who always catches fish. I guess I would have to say that I am throwing in the towel unless I go again with somedody who knows what they are doing.

Anyways...I have always been a sturgeon fisherman and have had success with springers and URBs. I have noticed that most of my fish are caught on anchor in the rivers. I want to fish tomorrow for steelhead and don't have a boat for small rivers so I thought that I could try anchor fishing in the Columbia. Do people have success with that? I was thinking maybe fishing along Sauvies Island or a mouth of one of the Washington rivers. I am guessing fish shallow out from a point on the bank. Maybe plunk spinners/plugs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only steelhead I have ever caught was one in the ocean and I am getting desperate.

Default Re: Anchor fishing for Columbia Steelhead?

I have caught em while anchored off the mouth of the Lewis and Cowlitz. Stayed above the hole on the Lewis (allowing the drifters to move through), and less drifters encountered on the Cowlitz mouth. Both places can be productive but with water running hard right now it helps to have a buddy along.
