Default spring runs

Got some numbers from Steve King at the commission meeting yesterday. It'll be in the paper Sunday.
Willamette will be 80-100 thou, with 15 thou into the clackamas and fishing seven days a week in both...expected anyway. clip rate at 80 percent.
Columbia expecting not only its second highest, but also 70 percent marked. That should make room for a lot of fishing.
The commission told King they want Oregon to hold the sharing to 60-40 to 70-30 with the nets. That's impacts, not fish. I think it works out to fewer fish for the nets because of the higher mortality (see another post. Pete is up on that one, too, and was at the meeting in Salem).
Sturgeon story is in today's paper...a mixed bag of seasons and days per week upriver and seasons downriver.
Nothing is decided, though, until the states meet separately on both issues.
Steve prepared the figures for a meeting Monday with the NSIA.

Man oh man...I look foreward to having more springers clipped on the Columbia. I got real tired of having to turn those hatchery fish loose last year. I didn't really bring but about eight to the boat, and they were all unclipped. Somehow I just don't see the fun in trying to release angry chinook with sets of razor sharp trebbles that close to my hands, not to mention the stress to the fish.

Smj, Try one of those hook extractors. They work well removing hooks and they are fast and gentle . The less we handle the wild fish, the better chance for survival. Hopefully that means we have more time on the water. Good fishing!

I have seen first hand on that Columbia the natives being released with blood a gushing.....

And to think that some thought trebles would do less damage. NOT!
