FCJ/STEEL (pic)
Since shortly before Thanksgiving I have been anxiously waiting to get my First Cast Jigs from Mark into the water. Posts of high water with blown out conditions, days of heavy rains, and numerous reports of chrome in the rivers, I finally took an opportunity today and ventured out in search of some Dec- Steel.
After many atempts with a clear teardrop sliding bobber and splitshot, I was unable to achieve a desired presentation through a semi fast tailout in 2 to 3 feet of water I decided to change to the (recommended on Ifish) cork float for shallow water with 2 peices of split shot in a fixed presentation and WHAM!! 34" Chromer. I usually fish the sliding bobbers but after today I am convinced that a fixed float in shallow water (under 3 feet) is the way to go! mending line was easier and helped the presention by 100%.
The 2 small pea size dark spots along the lateral line are the split shot I was using with this presentation.
thanks again Mark and First Cast Jigs!!

Very nice fish! But what does it mean, "mending the line"?

Re: FCJ/STEEL (pic)
Mending means that you keep your line straight between your pole and your bobber. (Sorry, can't get used to using the word float). You have to occaisionally "Mend your line" to get the belly out of your line. It's easiest when you wax your line. If you don't mend your line, you will need to set the hook, and all you will get is the extra belly of line you have out there.
Make sense?

Re: FCJ/STEEL (pic)
Mending the line is when you cast and additional line lays on the water...you need to mend it.(pick it up off the water without disturbing the presentation or the drift or the float) the sliding bobber with the current I was fishing kept pulling through the bobber affecting the jig presentation below :depressed:

Re: FCJ/STEEL (pic)
Rather than re-tieing, couldn't you just slide your bobber stop all the way down to prevent any movement ??

Re: FCJ/STEEL (pic)
King fisher85... nope...new water!!!
Spinner53,
That was an option but I also was using a #8 peach corkie above the sliding bobber as a strike indicator and I had the feeling the shape of the bobber plus the low water and the corkie were spooking fish and I would need even more weight to make the slider float correctly for vertical use. In this case a switch of the float was the ticket and definately helped for PAYDAY!!
