Boat Question
I have had this boat for five years and yesterday when I started it up to head back to the ramp. There was this beeping sound coming from where the key is. It might be a dumb question but what does this beeping mean. Is there something going on with the motor that needs to be checked out or what? Just thought that some of you here on Ifish might have some idea what's up. Oh ya I have an alumaweld open sled with a merc main motor. thanks for any help.

Re: Boat Question
My guess is oil level warning.

Re: Boat Question
My brothers does that right when you turn the key...just before you start it. Is this the first time you have heard this?? My bro's does it all the time. Probably normal. EDIT He has a 130 oil injected Mariner.

Re: Boat Question
My first thought would be an overheat situation, but an oil level problem would be my second guess.
Don't ignore it at any cost. It could cost you an engine if it is for real. Do you have an oil injected engine? If yes, and you have plenty of oil, check for blockage in the line and then consider a malfunction in the oiler itself.
Many of my friends have yanked the auto-oiler due to continual malfunction.

Re: Boat Question
Check your water squirter A.K.A. (****er) out the back, it doesn't take very long with that thing plugged to make that alarm go off meaking your too hot. I carry a wire to ram up there when duck hunting, lots of frog water. Also some do ring prior to starting but I can't think it would suddnly start after five years.

Re: Boat Question
Thanks for the fast responses I will check my oil level and water P:";er but I forgot to say that it beeped after I started the motor for about half a minute then stopped.

Re: Boat Question
If that's the case, be sure to look at oil level first and then the integrity of the line from the oiler to the engine.
My $.02 worth!

Re: Boat Question
I have a yamaha that does this when 1. there is something obstructing the prop from spinning(rope, kelp, etc...) 2. Low oil in reservior. or 3. Over heat.
4. Too much oil going into engine and sensor is overloaded. Probably not this one though if you didn't notice a nice oil slick or engine smoke.

Re: Boat Question
Agree with all of the above possible issues, Plus I have had the screw on lid for the oil resivor not be tight enough and thus get the Beep.
Good luck!

Re: Boat Question
Read your owners manual if you have one. Most outboards have this feature. Usually it is for overheat or lack of oil. Depending on which condition it is, the tone is either constant or pulsing(beeping).

Re: Boat Question
You may have lost a tooth on the oil injection drive gear. Better talk to a mechanic before you do any damage.

Re: Boat Question
Get thee to a mechanic quickly, son. And on the way, have thy fishing partner read to thee from the book of operations, which will say something like, "and yea, when the sound of anger emanates from the console of Mercury, verily the motor of fishhood is unhappy. If the number of beeps is *** , then to the temperature shalt thou look. If the number of beeps is yyy, to the oil pressure shalt thou look. If it simply happens when you turn the key on, to the heavens shalt thou look, for that be the sound of system test happiness. BUt if it happens after the commencing of fish wrship, then immediately shall ye cease fish worship, and get the hence to the Wizard of Motor Rehabilitation."
Or at least, that's what my manual says.
I have no flipping idea what the sound means, but it's almost certainly not good, and designed to make you spend a little money before you need to spend a lot of money.
