ODFW seeks public input for development of Oregon's 2005 sport fishing regulations

SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking anglers to
assist with the comprehensive review and development of the state's
angling rules that occurs every four years.

Proposals for new or amended angling regulations are being solicited from the angling public for development of the 2005 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations. ODFW and Oregon State Police already have developed angling regulation proposals as part of this process.

The last comprehensive review by ODFW, OSP and the public occurred in 2000 and affected angling regulations from 2001 through 2004. Development of the 2005 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations will shape regulations to be used from 2005 through 2008. The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will adopt changes from this extensive public review at its September 2004 Commission meeting in Salem.

An information packet describing the development of the 2005 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations is now available. The packet contains background information on angling regulations development, methods for members of the public to participate and a complete list of ODFW and OSP staff proposals currently being considered. Members of the angling public have until Feb. 29, 2004, to submit their own angling regulation proposals The angling regulation packet is available at http://www.dfw.state.or.us/ODFWhtml/...005_regdev.htm (.pdf format) or by calling ODFW's Fish Division at 503-947-6200.

Public meetings on ODFW, OSP and public proposals will be held in May 2004. The Commission will take public testimony on the regulation proposals at the August and September 2004 Commission meetings.

Additional information also may be obtained by contacting Rhine Messmer, Recreational Fisheries Program Manager, 503-947-6214, or any local ODFW office.
