Hello everyone
I've been a lurker for probably a good 6 months or more and have finally decided to join. The main reason I haven't signed up is that I don't get to fish that often. Time is just to hard to come by with working full-time and going to school full-time.
Well anyways, I know it is customary to tell a story for your first post, so here it goes.
It was a great day in early July and a good friend suggested heading to Frenchman's Bar and catch the evening tide. He figured going there so his boy could play on the equipment if he got too restless. His boy is four and isn't quite into fishing yet. So we get there and I throw out my clown spin-glo, put it in the holder and put the bell on. I had tied up before we had left inorder to have more time in the water. He did not do that and was having trouble getting ready since his boy was hanging on his leg and stuff. So I go and distract the boy a little by rough-housing with him. My friend can now tie up his line and get it wet. Just as I have him down in the sand laughing, my buddy yells up that my rod is going off. I couldn't hear the tiny bell over the boys' laughter. By the time I get up and grab the rod, the bell was dancing quite a bit. I set the hook and bring in a nice chrome 16# or so buck. I was pretty jacked up since it was my first salmon ever. (like I said, I don't get out that often) As it was my first salmon, I wasn't thinking too straight and should have had the little guy help reel it in. I think if I would have, he would be hooked just as I am now. My buddy gave me a bad time all the way home since I didn't even realize the bell was ringing.
I haven't caught anything since in the handfull of times I've gone. I've mainly hit the Washougal, Lewis and Kalama since I live in Vancouver and have limited time to get on the river. This is a great site and I think I've learned quite a bit from reading everyone's great tips. I just have to get out there more often and put these tips to good use. Possibly even meet some of you on the bank of one of those rivers to learn some of the ins-and-outs first-hand.
Sorry for such a long post...
