Default Oregon Shad Fishing?

Ok this is somthing that sounds like a kick. Can anyone give me the basics? (Time of year, general areas, tackle, etc) I live in Lincoln City but would like info on wherever!!

I have been told around Feb. on the Willamette is good. Any other ideas?

Feb. is a bit early for them. Try closer to May. Do a search on "Shad" and you will find a ton of info on timing, methods, locations, etc.

Thanks! Don't know why I didn't think to do a search.

Just keep your eye on the board, as any season approaches the topics start lighting up like a Christmas tree  I am particularly looking forward to shad this year cuz I was just given a big upright freezer so now I wont have to share a freezer with honey

3rd week in may through 3rd week in June.
shad rack on the CR near bonniville, or clackamette park. Check the search, there's a ton of stuff on shad fishing. The best crab bait around!

Just for bait purposes my brother turned me on to jiggin smelt sized shad around late July off the 6th street pier in Astoria, kinda fun on ultra light when you hook up with 4 or 5 of em at a time, any later then that and the chovies move in and its hard to find a shad but nothin like fresh, self caught anchovy for the fall nooks.Got a few doz. doz. of the little shadlets packed away for sturgeon but there kinda soft in the belly so you have to give em a few wraps with some stretchy string.

Starting in mid May thru mid July the Umpqua is a good bet. Let me know if you would like more info.

What GreenButteSkunk said, although you might consider the lower half of the Multnomah Channel, it's much less crowded than the Oregon City Willamette - you can find a spot where you'll be the only boat if you want to.

Or if you want to fish around folks to pick up some tips, I think you'll find the folks there to be better natured (just don't tangle my anchor line) and not so serious about the whole thing, compared to those up by the falls.

Of course, end of May/beginning of June is still a good time for springers too.
