Default Best Christmas Gift Ever!

For as long as I can remember my family has hunted and fished. The skills and love for fishing has been passed down from generation to generation. My father started me out on bluegill and trout and later cat fishing.Every year from when my son could walk dad would take him cat fishing on the snake river whether I could go or not. When I no longer could make the 10 day cat fishing trip (because of work)my dad and mom continued to take my son Jon aka: Mastercaster here on ifish. I had fished for salmon and steelhead a few times many years ago and gave it up. My son, Jon took it up with a friend of his a few years back and got me back into it. We now enjoy many trips a year together and starting 2 years ago we began taking my family members who had never caught a salmon/steelhead before and in the past 2 years we have had the pleasure of seeing our familes ALL get into fish and some of them multiple fish. There is nothing like the look on a face of a person fighting their first steelhead or salmon,it is priceless. We have started this year taking my 4 year old grand daughter aka-nut (not on ifish just because grandpa nick named her)aka: Samantha with us a few times. She has "reeled" on a couple fish and next year we are getting her tag so she can catch a few to post on ifish with us. My father is 78 years old now and handicapped I am 49 (50 jan 4th)my son Jon is 25(26 dec 22) and we have been taking dad with us the past few years. He has health issues that prevent him from casting so he loves hand offs from Jon and I and we are more than happy to help him out! Here is the pic I took yesterday that really got me to thinking how extremely lucky we are as fishing buddies to had as of now 3 generations of grandpa father and son (next year to be 4 generations) on the river fishing together making memories that will live on in our family long after we are all gone. What a great joy it is to feel.
Here is the picture. I am taking the picture, my Dad with the rod in hand and my son Jon on the net.

What a great story. Truely, family is what it is all about.

I find your story particularly to the point after having just read the thread about how the fishing experience (oops, they were taking about the fish harvested...) is not worth the increased cost of this year's fishing license. While no one likes to pay more for anything, they miss the point.

I think it's called "sharing the love."

Great way to start the day, Fish-n-fever, reading that post. Brought back some fine memories.

You're a lucky guy and it sounds like you're planning on staying that way. My hat is off to you and your family.

Boy, memory time for me too. Many days with my grandfather, my father, and my brother on the water be it liquid or frozen back in Minnesota. Great times make great memories.

Alot of good memories are made with these trips. Even if we dont catch fish. I really enjoy seeing the look on ANYONES face when they land a fish especially their first big fish like a salmon or steelhead. Im happy to say I have put that look on MANY peoples faces in the past few years.

Thanx to my family I am a fishing addict <a good thing I think but not sure if my boss thinks its so good > and I hope to be able to share my love for this sport with many more people to come.

Jon
