five minute epoxy is the best for applying the new tip. You should be able to hit the old tip with a cigarette lighter for five seconds and pull the old tip off. If it takes more than that, you may have cooked the resin in the blank, and you should just cut the blank right below the old tip top, sand it lightly, and put the tip on there. Won't affect the action a bit.

If you use a two part epoxy will you still be able to remove the tip with a heat source?

I carry a stick of ferrule cement in my tacklebox. I got it at an archery shop. You heat it with a match, lighter, or candle. Touch your rod tip to it and put on the tip top. No mixing or other gooey stuff like epoxy to mess with. I also used to use it to put inserts and broadheads on my arrows for bow hunting.

I can tell you right now that if you put to much heat on your tip you will weaken the blank. When I first started building rods I held the heat on the tip to long trying to get a tip top off that was epoxied on. Now I have an awesome short stout backbouncing tip section for my 12-25.

Look for a tip top adhesive stick (flex coat)If the tip top breaks again very low heat softens the glue enough and it comes right off. Another good thing about it is if you see that it is crooked after it dries you can adjust it by heating it up again. Epoxy is not forgiving.

I too just replaced a tip top from a cracked insert. Took be 30 seconds.

If you use epoxy and it breaks again you take a chance of messing up your blank once again.

There is an actual "Tip Top" cement that looks like a hot glue stick, but its a darker yellow and a little stiffer. They are only about $1.00, and I think they carry them at G.I Joes, and that other place that rhymes with "Sky Mart". shave off little pieces, use a tooth pick to PACK, and I mean get as much as possible, into the tip, heat by holding next to, not over a heat source, until it begins to bubble out, then slide back onto rod. Back in business...

Heat it with a lighter or candle and the old tip will slip right off. Use a needle nose plier or something to keep from burning yourself.

I just replaced the tip on one of my rods last night. Heat the tip with either a high heat hair dryer or heat gun or candle (be real careful with the candle). Pull the tip off with plyers. Clean the old epoxy / glue off the blank and install the new tip with either the 2 part epoxy or the hot glue stick. I used the 2 part epoxy and it worked great.
