Default Winchester 94 pre-64 Side Scope Mount

I've seen a few posts about how to mount a scope on a Winchester 94 but I haven't seen an example like the way I did mine.

My rifle is a pre-64 30-30 and mounting a side scope was super easy.

Online you can buy Weaver Side Mount Base 48415. Take out the top 3 screws on the left side of the rifle and mount the base with the 3 screws provided. Save the original 3 screws in case you want to restore you 94 to original condition some day.

Online you can buy Weaver 1" Detachable Side Mount Rings 49350. Install the rings on the base with the 2 large screws provided.

Install your scope of choice (mine is a Leupold VX-I 2-7x33) in the rings just like you would any other scope. Bore sight and you are ready to head to the range to dial it in.

Total time to mount was about 5 minutes.

I inherited this rifle from my grandfather and I killed my very first deer with it 30 years ago and several more since. If all goes as planned my son will use it to kill his first deer in 2012.

Awesome. I have the same gun, with the same scope mount. I killed my first deer with that rifle years ago. It makes a really good brush gun

I have one that was my grandfather's. I think the mount is different, but similar.

I hunted for 2 seasons with a 30-30, fired 2 shots killed 2 deer. Not sure why I had to go bigger and better.......

I know exactly what you mean. Shot a whitetail last year with my 7mm from 48 yards. The 94 would have been the better rifle.

About how much did you pay for both the ring and mount setup?
I'm looking to do the same with my 94.

Weaver #48415 - $22
Weaver #49350 - $32

There is another ring mount that will provide more eye relief.

Weaver #49340 - not sure on the price but can't be much different.

B-Square used to make a side mount as well.

Unless you are a collector, the difference is negligible. The gun was drilled when my Father in law bought it in the 40s. It had an old Weaver tube on it and a recoil pad. It still outshoots and looks better than most of the sloppy 94s I've seen on the racks for $500.

The value is in the eye of the shooter. I don't care one way or the other if I sell it or not. I may even give it to a deseving young man one day.

I'm just looking to increase my varmint arsenal.

With that type of a scope mount, I feel they are the perfect gun for deer in the brush.
