Default St. Helens Sturgie Report 1/11/03

For a change of scenery and a tide that was two hours earlier we headed to the St. Helens area. Wanted to get out of all the shaker action at KP and hoped there might be some bigger fish down river. I have never fished the area so it was all new to me. Ended up with more shakers, 33 to be exact. Where are the keepers?

From the chatter on the radio most folks had a real slow day. One boat at the launch said they managed one keeper. I guess the boat show and maybe football was more important since there wasn't many boats around either.

Sounds like a pretty good day on uncharted water. I saw your wife and step daughter today at the movies. I sat through the show wishing I was on the river. Oh well, maybe next weekend.

Chris, sorry you had to endure that torcher. Man what were you thinking?

Lots of seals and gulls around. Gotta be some bigger fish somewhere. May have to head back down there next weekend. Good launch  and a little bit different crowd made for a good day.

Waterdog, I think they are hangin' out and with all the winter steelhead in some undisclosed secret location.

Your experience is the same as everyone I've talked to at the marina in St Helens. Shakers are abundant and keepers are few and far between.
