First spring chinook!!!!!!
You hear it here first!
A 19-pound, four ounce hatchery spring chinook was caught about 1:30 today by Jerry Nemer of Portland, fishing just above Sellwood Bridge. Heard scattered rumors of some this week or last in Multnomah Channel, but had no proof or even a report, so Nemer's is it!
Fish early and often, folks. The bulk of the big run this year is early five-year returners...
(No, dunno what it was caught on, but strongly suspect cutplug...)

Re: First spring chinook!!!!!!
Thanks for the report! It gives all hope that we might be as lucky or skilled. It is certainly a bright (silver) spot for the lack of steelhead numbers. Way to go Jerry yee haw!!

Re: First spring chinook!!!!!!
This just in. After hearing the news that a springer was caught BOE was spotted getting a jump on the springer season. He was seen trolling near Lake Oswego.
Looks like we will be seeing the Duckworth on the river every morning now until June. Same result as last year is expected.

Re: First spring chinook!!!!!!
Hey Bill,
Fisherman's Marine in Oregon City had two confirmed springers as of yesterday afternoon. One 11 (supposedly off the bar) and one 39 lbs. out of Sellwood. You might want to give them a call and get the straight skinny since I heard this second-hand .
Here's to Springers!
