Default Cowlitz Conditions?

Any word on how the Cowlitz is looking? I understand the visibility has been really bad.

Can see it from the living room window at some distance and it doesn't look good and I'm above the mouth of the Toutle. Will drive down and look at it in the morning and let you know. The plunkers were getting a few last week, but it looks a little cloudier today.

Shotshell - I really appreciate the info. Do you know what is causing the excess silt? I have heard all sorts of speculation.

Just came from a closer look at the river and visibility is about 14-16" at best above the mouth of the Toutle. I would estimate the river is up another foot just since last week. Good plunking water. I may try it in the morning. Haven't heard anything about the silting problem. By the looks of the height of it I would guess there isn't a driftable piece of water on the whole river. Use to fish up at the barrier dam when I was stationed at Ft. Lewis back in the early 70's and did a little trolling for Springers down just above the mouth before the mountain blew. Also use to catch Springers just above the mouth of the Toutle. Don't really know that much about the river, but intend to learn more.

Word has it the silt is coming right out of the lake. Seems they dropped it down to do some dam repairs and upon refilling kicked up all sorts of ugly stuff.

Thanks again for the info Shotshell. If you are interested in a boat ride around the dam let me know.

Pepito, thanks for the offer and would like to do that. I haven't got a boat yet that will work on the river having just bought a big one for the CR. I'm heading up to Forks for three days early next week and would like to check in with you when I get back. Click on my moniker for my email address. Thanks, Paul
