Winters are getting tougher in my old age. I am primarily a fly fisherman with trout and summer steelhead my main focus. Up until a few years ago, I would spend most Sunday winter mornings drift fishing for steelhead down on the Clack in a spot now washed away by the flooding which took place several years ago. You locals probably know it. It was on the south side, west of the old bridge abutment just up from that first big rapid above the mouth. There were several slots that I knew like the back of my hand that usually kicked out a fish or two. I’d fish it for a few hours and if I couldn’t find a biter, I’d go home but at least I knew I was targeting fishy water. Most years I could fill my tag from that location alone. Now with most of my flies tied for the coming season, and no yard work, I’m starting to get squirrelly. Help me out here guys. I’m looking for a nearby spot to do some drift fishing (too hyper to plunk) just to get out of the house for a few hours. I’ve tried the north side of the aforementioned location but could never find the biters. Your suggestions would be appreciated..especially by my wife.
