Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
There was just a report of a blue boat flipped, two people in the water at the mouth of Netarts Bay.
Probably crabbers... Yuck. After watching the perfect storm last night, this scares me.
Hope everyone is rescued OK... That's a bad place to be.

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
Sorry to hear of the "flipped boat in Netarts Bay!" Hope all the occupants are ok and rescued. Who in their right mind would be there close to the mouth on an out going tide like we have this weekend? Folks need to be very aware of conditions and tides and be careful near these entrances. The risks are more real than on the I-5 freeway. Outgoing tides is tough crabbing anyway? Tough consequences with those ingedients. Hope all is OK!

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
People do have motor troubles, and you just never know what can happen to the best of us.

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
I'm sorry, Marie, I took a nap. Don't feel good.
Anyway, last I heard it was a zodiak, and 4 people were in the water. :depressed:
Hope they all were rescued. Unusual for a zodiac to crash like that.
Jen

Good Morning!
Any word today on this incident or the boaters who were in the water?

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
Don't be near the mouth of a bay on an outgoing tide unless you have 2 reliable motors! Could have been a disaster. Glad to hear all are ok.

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
I hope these people are OK :depressed: Any word if they all got out of the water?
I couple years ago I was held up at the ramp at Netarts while the local fire department was running some life saving drills. They had a pair of jet skis they were trying to launch at the ramp. They had a boat go out and drop a dummy and these jet skis were going to go rescue it for practice. The lady they had driving the truck obviously had never backed a trailer as she spent 20 minutes jack-knifed on the ramp, first left then right. When they finally got the jet skis to the water they had a problem with backing in to far and the jet skis were floating but tied to the trailer. The trailer was in the water so far the nose of the skis were sucked under the water (still tied to trailer) they couldnt get the skis loose from the trailer. Finally they pull forward a bit and got the jet skis off the trailer. Without exagerating one bit, it was at least 30 mintes from top of ramp to leaving the dock for the rescue. The ramp is single lane and several boaters got a good laugh as they waited watching the rescue unit dressed in the latest wet suits with brand new jet skis make what looked like a first run.
I am sure they have gotten better in the last few years but I knew right then my best rescue source would be from another boater should I need it.
I would rather have them than nobody in the area to come help should I need it. I hope they continued to practice, or got a new driver.

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
I can’t find any news on the web but one of the local stations reported yesterday that there were 3 guys on a zodiac type boat that capsized. All were wearing drysuits and all were rescued buy the FD on the jet skies mentioned by the cracker jack. Story wasn’t big enough to make any headlines I guess.

Re: Boat flipped mouth of Netarts Bay
Small towm rumors! I was told by a friend, who was told by a friend, that it was a ODFW boat. One of the men looked like Rick Klumph, Tillamook ODFW office. Two days later I was able to reach Rick, he laughed and said oh my, small town rumors. ODFW does not even own a Zodiac. It was a private boat. oh well.
