Default 1967-2003 May you rest in peace :(

We will miss you. :depressed:
Through all of the guided trips, where you have saved me from the cold.
Through every river that we have navigated together.
For every cup of coffee that you stored, and I shared with my friends...
You have kept me warm.
You were my friend.

Another victim of cancer of the canister.

Believe me, if it would hold liquid, we wouldn't get rid of it.
We tried everything in our power to save it.
"rust" in peace.... LOL, Pilar!

Hey- Is this fishing related? Wasn't this topic covered last month? Did you check the archives?

hehe - sorry - got to sleep in this morning, watch the beutiful sunrise out of bed and then drink 1/2 a pot of coffee.
I'm playing taps for ya right now Jennie. Only had to replace two of those in my life. Fiurst one got run over by a CAT (not the furry kind). Second got left on the bumper on the upper trask (we think) and wasn't discovered to be MIA until Hillsboro. Probably still up there in the brush/ditch somewhere. Think the coffee's still hot? (it was about 15 years ago)

PS - I think I would set that up on the mantle. I'm sure it will continue to provide memories for many years to come!

I remember taking a Finnish girlfriend of mine out on the Columbia. First time she had met Bill.
Now, I don't know if this is Finnish custom, but she, and her friends seem to be very thrifty.

She said to me, after the trip, "Your boyfriend is very cheap, isn't he?"

I said, "Excuse me?"

She said, "Just look at his Thermos! He isn't thrifty, he's cheap!"

how did you get the stainless steel on the bottom to rust????

Perhaps the Thermos folks could rebuild "Frankenthermos" for you.

Then again perhaps nobody would want to touch it.

I actually sent the thread url to the people at THERMOS.

If you want to, also, maybe power in numbers would get them to do something about this!!!

How dare they make a thermos that won't last through 20 years of harsh abuse?

We have used it to conk salmon is all... No other real abuse. No running over it with the trailer, nuttin! Just a lot of rolling around in the bottom of a wet raft/driftboat/jetsled with the rest of the fishes!

I really would love to see more pics of beat up thermos containers here. A sort of tribute.
Jen

I would suggest you burry it but a am afraid you would poison to water table.

One more thing to think about...you drink out of a thing like that and then wonder why you are sick? Take me for example I wash my coffee cup on a very regular time frame, once a month even if it doesn't even need it.

Jennie,

Such degradation of the product must be due to a defect in its design or manufacturing process. Thermos has an excellent warranty and should honor it.
I would send it back to Thermos at:

Thermos Customer Service Department
355 Thermos Road
Batesville MS 38606

Include a letter with a description of its required repairs and request fixing or replacement of the unit.

Keep us posted on the response from Thermos.

LB

PS Remind them Stanley has a lifetime guarantee!

This Thermos is about 10 years old and it too is suffering from coast cancer, brought on by neglect, misuse and the environment in which is mostly used.

It however still holds hot coffee and isn't going to be replaced until it springs a leak!

Sorry for your loss Jen. I hope you can heal quickly and move on.......... :depressed: SD

EDIT: Bigdaddy, that was one big picture! Please crop them, or resize them, or scan them at no more than 72 dpi... Shrink them down to no more than 400 pixels wide... Then they won't force the page to scroll, and take so long to load. I did this one for you.

While we are on this subject someone left a brand new one of those in my boat last year. I just found it and if you can ID it you can claim it! Otherwise it's mine! Tell me which day you fished with me and how big the fish was.

If Thermos doesn't honor the warranty, then I would suggest auctioning it off on either Ifish or Ebay.

You stand to make some money.

See, your problem is not buying a Stanley...

Also 20 years old

Notice the flat side. Can't remember if we ran it over or not.

And finally, the fish-bonkin bottom

This thing gets used every day for work coffee. He complains that it doesn't keep the coffee hot any more, but he won't give it up.

I love the pics! Relatives of our Thermos! I wonder if they knew about the illness spreading through the families?

Now they'll know! Ifish is awesome!

Bill says his doesn't keep the coffee hot either anymore.

And here I thought they kept going, and going, and going.....

I can't believe it! I spent the day today, getting fitted for all kinds of extreme wear from USIA Adventure Charters .. They are trying to talk me into going out in the ocean! I have to go through some kind of survival class in all my new gear...
Anyway... I came home, and this brand new Thermos was on the kitchen counter.
I asked Bill how he got that?
Bill had sent his old Thermos, above, into Thermos, and told them that he had had this Thermos for 35 years... Told them the whole story, and guess what they did? They sent Bill a brand new Thermos, like the one in front here!!

Now that is service!

I guess if a product lasts 35 years, you deserve a new one!

Jen,

I still have my hat from fishing the Wildlife Heritage derby some 15 to 20 years ago. It has the same logo. I don't remember for sure what year it was but I believe the Les Davis reps sponsored a few of us from Payless/Sportland Distributing to fish.

Tell me if you heard this one: I took my stanley thermos deerhunting and accidentaly left it on a stump, came back the following year to the same stand, and, the coffee was still hot. They are bullet proof though, I dropped mine from the top of a elec transmission tower I was building and it hit the tower legs all the way down and sunk about a foot into the mud, filled it once with gas when my motorcycle ran out and had to throw out the plastic cap but I still have the thermos.
