Clackamas Report for today
I fished Barton to Carver and didn't touch a fish. I fished with bobber and Jigs and also threw some excellent row into the river with no ROI. The river level and color was perfect.
It looked like at least a half dozen sleds and about as many driftboats. I talked to a few guys in the boats and they had the same story.

It just doesn't make sence. We drifted wed. and same story with almost all the guy's we talked to . Going to try tomorrow with the idea being just to enjoy the warm homemade stew that will be slow cooking in the boat. Fish has been here lately too slow.

Re: Clackamas Report for today
I just obtained some interesting info about the stocks of steelhead in the Clack this season. It gets more interesting next year too. It tells me, in part anyways why it has been so slow.
I got it from the guys at the Dog Cr. hatchery, not sure if they would be too fond of a horde of people calling them up but on the other hand it is publicly funded. I'll try to see if my scanner will copy this and put it in a format that is E-mailable tomorrow.
I've been fishing the Clack pretty hard from November until this last week, had some great days in mid Dec. but it all seemed to bottom out as of late. From what I've seen and heard on the river it's been a nickel and dime affair if even that. It will get better though......

Fished plugs for awhile today between Carver and Deep Cr. Same results, nothing.

eagle creek, clack..two drifters..one sled... NO FISH... water was clear but good looking. Looks like another one of those runs where you hear of fish being caught but none the day when your on the river..

No no no, not my intent at all. I just want to see if I can scan this and convert it to PDF or something so it is readable.
In a nutshell, the switch to broodstock fish on the Sandy and Clack is almost complete. These fish should be late returns, the bulk of which will be March-May. Could be a real hoot because they will be mixed in with early Summers so Spring fishing could be just bang up.

Re: Clackamas Report for today
I bank fished for three hours this morning on the Clackamas, upstream from Hwy 99 bridge. I flyfished for the first two hours, then tried jig & bobber. No hits for me. There was a sled with three guys drifting repeatedly through the same area. I never saw any action for them, either.
But it was a nice day and I quit before the rain started.
And I still have not caught a winter steelhead under 17 lbs.

Re: Clackamas Report for today
Team Fish Hawk scored six fish to the boat today plus a couple of suckers. Pictures to follow.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Talons (Joe Salvey), Fish Hunter(Jay Daly), and Slow Roll(Paul Borowick). Joe was generous enough to post open seats for the Steelhead Challenge. Joe really knows his stuff. Overall it was a great day of fishing and made some new friends in the process. Don't get any better than that.

Re: Clackamas Report for today
I wasn't in the tourney today but bank fished at a couple of spots. Released two dark summers (great colors) and saw 10-12 other fish caught. Two were bright and the rest should have been released. Fished Barton area and McIver.
