Rocket Launchers Poll
I am curious to the number of people that have or would like to have rocket launchers.

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
This is the first boat I've owned with rocket launchers. I will never own another boat without them. They work!

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Rocket launchers are vertical pole holders (for in transit,) sometimes mounted on a boat's top, other times on the transom or engine cover.

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
I've got them on the roof of my boat but I need to stand on my toes to drop rods into them. In most cases, I use the rod holders mounted on the doghouse over my motor.
They are nice when I am making a long run and fishing two species. I can put the latter species rod on the roof and the first species rods down below.
One other thing about rocket launchers....they ain't cheap. But then, what is when it starts with "marine?"

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
You can get launchers that are reasonable... Motion Marine makes launchers that you just latch on and screw in... these are the types I have. They are powder coated, heavy duty meatal launchers. I drilled holes in my top cross bars and installed them in about 5 minutes. You can get them at GI Joes or Fisherman's and they always have a supply at their booth in the boat show that is coming up.

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Yes, would love to have. Own a 21" NR, plan on building a combo radar arch/ wakeboard tower...complete with rocket launchers.
Hopefully form will follow function.

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Not just for potatoes or transit. I fish rods out of mine all the time.
I also call the recessed gunnel mount rod holders "rocket launchers". Not sure thats proper but they are the same thing only not rail mounted.
Is there any other type of rodholder?

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
I dunno, Keta. They don't seem as destructive as the cooler that slides across the deck and pins your favorite rod against the gunnel. Besides, they're short-barreled and won't launch anything very far - not even a potato.

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
I added 6 launchers to my boat last year and would never have another ride without them. Easy place to keep those extra rods out of the way when you are on the water as well as when you are under way... just remember to take the rods out of the launchers after you trailer your boat and before you drive under the overpass at the Skipanon Launch!

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
You guys have got me thinking...
I fish from a family runabout (19' Bayliner open-bow). I would love a "real" fishing boat, but no room to park 2 big boats, and the kids would kill me if I got something they couldn't wakeboard behind. So now I'm thinking the big wakeboard rack that they want me to get for the boat may be useful. If I can mount rocket launchers in a way that they won't get in the way of the ski rope, I'll be in heaven. Any ideas?

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Beefcake,
I feel your pain, I have the same boat. I was worried about breaking a rod when the fish-on fire drill started. Since there is so little room between the top and the back seats.
I mounted the pole holder to the outside of the window. There is a piece of aluminum that hooks over the top of the window. Then there are four standoffs and suction cups that space it off the window. I wanted it semi-permanent so I also added silicone chalking inside the suction cups. The duct tape was being used as a clamp while the chalking dried. The tape really isn't there today.

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Here is a picture of the Edwing rocket launchers in action. This is a design feature that I came up with and Skein stole. They are now a "standard" feature on the boat, I think. People keep telling Ed to build it just like crabbait's boat.
Pictured are my brother Randy and his daughter Tara with her first 'nook (32lb). Randy's other daughter Amanda is at the rear helm.
The rocket launchers are great for keeping rods out from under foot. The solid net holder is another "must have" feature (left side of the picture, two rings you see welded to the upright bar between the bar and the side of the cabin).

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Gus,
I have a great idea for boats with soft tops. The idea doesn't require a $1800 radar arch either. I half way flirted with trying to market it, but I seriously doubt I will.
I am going to make one for my boat, and when I do I will post pics/process here for my 6000 friends at Ifish. The idea would be great for somebody already in the business of marine fabrication, which I am not.
So if somebody picks up the idea and runs with it, just remember to say..."Hey, that guy has some Joe's mounted on his boat"

Re: Rocket Launchers Poll
Thought I'd bump this up to add my newly installed launchers... inspired by this thread. I had to rig it up a little so they fit in a convient place. I could also fish out of them if it weren't for the two fish-ons you see directly behind them!
