The picture will help when they need to issue a ticket? Didn't the Wilson close to the retention of Salmon the end of December?

Re: Wilson report 1/9
corrirod, edit this picture out as quick as you can. Your supposed to release chinook after 12/31. Nice fish, but your looking at a $300.00 love letter from the state police.

Its not him in the picture he said. Can you get a ticket for taking a picture of a fish out of season?

Re: Wilson report 1/9
"Good samaritan fisherman gets picture of poacher as he runs from police."
Criminals can be found every where these days, seems that local fisherman on the Wilson river today got to see first hand what steps poachers go through for their loot.
As seen in the picture above, a good samaritan fisherman just happened to be in the right place at the right time and get a picture of a poacher throwing his fish into the back seat of a getaway car and race away.
Local Law Enforcement Deputies caught up with the suspects just east of The Guide Shop and engaged in a high speed pursuit east bound on Hwy 6. The suspects avoided multiple accidents as their loot awoke with a renew vigar and started thrashing back and forth in the car, creating such a distraction for the driver that he finally plunged off of a cliff into the frigid waters of the Wilson river.
Deputies watched from above as the large salmon freed itself from the wreckage and swam to safety.
The 2 suspect were held at Tillamook County Jail to be arraigned tomarrow.
(Sorry Rod, I had to have a little fun with this)

Re: Wilson report 1/9
OK, who knows?
The fish is a bit dazed for sure. Perhaps it revived enough to swim away. I doubt it was kept by the handling...

Re: Wilson report 1/9
Not wanting to judge a person or story too quickly Ill save my judment for after corrirod tells what actually happened and if this guy released the fish or not.
That fish <other than the eyes looking straight out> looks like it was meant to be released. He is standing at the rivers edge, doesnt have his hands in its gills and is holding it like he was about to put it back in the river.
Hope corrirod can fill us in on what actually happened.
Jon

Re: Wilson report 1/9
Holy @#$@, get your panties untwisted before it cuts off the blood to your head!
Nowhere in my post does it mention rentention! This guy had never caught a steelhead or salmon before so I decided to take his picture before we released it.... COMPLETELY unharmed (other than it's pride being hurt a little from being caught by a newbie), and thus the reason for the guy's big smile! I even grabbed the fish's tail as he got it close to shore and held it in the water till he cut the leader and was ready for the picture, then, with some coaching, and 5 other bystanders, he revived the fish within less than a minute and it swam back to the deep water. You guys and your eye diagnosis, please. Perhaps the flash from the camera bothered him?
Thank you Zaq, MasterCaster, for waiting to hear the whole story before jumping to conclusions. Fishbait take a lesson!!! You just falsely accused a nice guy you don't even know of killing a fish that was released unharmed! I had to rewrite and delete all the 4 letter words I had for you in this thread after I cooled down from reading your peanut gallery soapbox blabber! He doesn't even know I posted this picture. He didn't have a camera so I used my digital camera and emailed it to him when I got home! Perhaps you'd like me to have him contact you directly so you can tell him yourself how you would like to remove him from the gene pool?
And UG, I'll take that as a compliment.

Re: Wilson report 1/9
Thanx for clearing that up Rod.
I thought that fish looked alive to me but I can also understand other peoples concerns. I just wish people wouldnt assume so much without asking or knowing the facts first.
Great pic btw of a beautiful fish!

Re: Wilson report 1/9
Live salmon and steelhead do commonly have their eyes point downward when out of water for a moment, and the eyes go straight out after being bonked. But without a doubt I have seen many live fish up close in person that have their eyes looking straight outward, and they swim away healthy after a proper release. I have also seen pictures later of a live fish that were released in good shape and in the pictures the eyes looked straight out. I am surprised that some good fishermen in this thread weren't aware of that. Thanks for clearing things up corrirod.

Re: Wilson report 1/9
In fact, and I am serious here, note that the pupil is NOT dialated. A fish that has been bonked ALWAYS has dialated eyes.
Interesting....

Re: Wilson report 1/9
What is it that wise men say about choosing your words carefully in case you have to eat them. Well I guess I need to fix my cranial rectal inversion and move forward.
Yes, I over reacted, Yes, I made some some incorrect assumptions, Yes, I could have done it better, Yes, I am passionate about Chinook. So, to Corrirod and the angler in the picture, I made a mistake and I apologize. I ask that you accept my apology and forgive me for making a fool of myself. I offer no excuses other that I am human and sometime make mistakes.
That is a nice fish in the picture, I bet it was great fun landing and releasing it, and Corrirod, that was very considerate of you to take that picture and post it here for all to enjoy.............. FB

Re: Wilson report 1/9
Rod, It was a compliment... knowing you, I had no doubt the fish was released alive and well, and I had no doubt what your reaction to the replys in this thread woud be. Which is why I couldn't resist poking a little bit of fun (read TUNA regulations) as well. I'm glad you got it.
