Clackamas Help!!
My buddy and I want to fish the 3-day weekend on the Clack, but have absolutely no idea where to begin
We're heading over from Yakima, WA and just need to know where to book a place to stay and of course where to fish. We'll be bringing a drift boat with us.
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
If your planning on fishing all day when you're here, I'd put it an feldheimers and take out at carver.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
do a yellow pages search on yahoo for motels. there are a few right off of 224 i think. as for where to fish, go pick up a fishing in oregon book and read up on the clack. go to www.topozone.com and get your maps downloaded so you can at least see what you're dealing with. an hour spent searching the 2002, 2001 and 2000 archives for info on the clack would also be time well spent.
good luck!

Re: Clackamas Help!!
I don't know the name of the motel but I believe there is one located right by high rocks, this would be an ideal place to stay if your fishing the Clack.........................anyone know the name?.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
Depending on your skills, some parts of the Clack might be deemed "tricky", but if you can read water, you'll be ok.
Fishing isn't red hot by anymeans right now, but could ( or should) take off anytime.
Good luck, I can get you some hotel #'s later if you need, I just gotta get to class right now.......

Re: Clackamas Help!!
you are going to drive to the cities to fish for steelies? the fishing is not that good. unless you have other business here i would go somewhere else. i would at least plan to fish on weekdays. why not look at the clearwater in ID. i just want to make sure you dont get dissapointed. if you come up here i will be glad to give you some maps and some more help. so i want to welcome you here but prepared for an urban fishing expereience.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
I'm definitely up for other options....but too often it seems like people don't want to provide info.
Basically I'm sick of fishing the Cowlitz, even though I've only been skunked once in my life there. Spent last weekend at the Grand Ronde, which was okay, but not again any time soon.
The Bogachiel is another one that's jumping around in my head.
Here's the bottom line...I want to hit up some new water, but at the same time I want a 'decent' chance of hooking some chrome.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
anybody got any ideas for rola76? out of yakima i would not be sure. i looked on the map and idaho is a bit far even out of yakima. maybe look for a guide. it could be cheaper after gas, lodging, rest, bait. if i were you i would post for suggestions/help for someone from yakima. also post on the WA website piscatorial pursuits. if you have not been there it is on the ifish home page. good luck and dont give up on the clack either. the run could get better. so drop me a note if you decide to come here.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
Thanks for the Fishing is Life.
I know I sound like some rookie, but I'll admit, on certain rivers I totally am. Throw me on the Cowlitz, Klickitat, Columbia, or Yakima and I'm right at home. However, it's a different story on the Oregon side.
And again, any river will do as long as there's a decent run of fish. Of course there are never guarantees though.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
If you're thinking Bogachiel try Jeff Woodward in Forks. He owns a great bed and breakfast there and you have 3 great rivers to fish. I have stayed there a few times and has always been great. They also have a hot tub which is nice after a full day fishing. I believe there are shuttles available. You can find his name in STS or HFN. If you have trouble finding it email me and I can get it for you. As most have said the Clack has no fish. Make that FEW fish. :depressed:

76,
Clack isn't to Hot right now Waters good but lot's "o" boats and not a lot of action. Coast might be better. Love the Nestucca. Give a call down to Nestucca Sporting Goods they are good for the info.

Re: Clackamas Help!!
Comfort Suites is right off 205 freeway at the exit you would take to drift the Clack. If you want more info, just email me and I can give look up the # and maybe give you a few options. Might think about bank fishing on Eagle creek. Would still use same hotel as you would take the same exit to go to either the Clack. or Eagle creek. Good luck.
