Default Summer fish?

I was invited to go fish today with a friend from work, and he ended up catching a hen that has already spawned out. Well, at least it had no eggs in it, and it was showing some color to it. The river we were fishing (Coos) has no reported summer fish in it, so was this just an early spawner or what? Any ideas?

My guess is it was a winter that had already spawned. I think the summers spawn in April. But I have been wrong before.

Haha--I will wonder as well! He said it was pink as can be. I'll take his word for it though.

It was a winter fish. Ive seen quite a few spawned winter steelhead in December and January. They always seem to be females too.

By the way,

Hows the "other" river fishing?????

Fish was a winter fish most likely, a lot of steelhead are spawning this time of the year. The summer fish should have already spawned.
just my 2 cents

They are all great if you love snags and the smell of rotting salmon in the air. Almost hurrled while trying to perform one of my many re-rigging efforts today. Nasty in places!

I'd say it is a winterfish. My neighbor got on e Monday that right after he bonked it, he felt the belly and she was firm. Then when he picked her up after about an hour he walked over to me and she was just pouring her eggs out. Confused me, she was tight earlier with no eggs spewing when he slid his hands down her belly.
