Great Tip!

Just joined ifish recently and picked up a tip off another thread to always loosen drag when storing reel. I'm 57 years old and have been fishing all my life and have never heard this before. Makes wonderful sense [img]graemlins/applause.gif[/img] I'm surprised any of my reels work worth a hoot and when I reflect back on drag problems I've had in the past, this probably would have prevented them. Thanks a lot!!!!

I loosen the drag when storing my reels. It does save the drag from what I hear too. Thanks for sharing this with us. Some might not have heard of it before

Yep, that's what we do too. Just be sure to tighten it the next time you go fishing!!

When I was a kid my dad took care of loosening and tightening my drag between trips. One time he forgot to retighten it. Got a bite, set the hook and almost ended up on my kiester, when I reared back and encountered no resistance.

Stumbled backwards, but managed to recover and actually land the steelhead.

:grin: If you leave your drags tight on your reels they are smashed down, not "fluffed up" for maximum adjustment when u need to tighten drag down there's no way to put more drag pressure on them. They also seat themselves with uneven pressure. Hope it helps. Good catching!.......

Great tip, makes sense.....I'd never heard this before. Just loosened up the drag on all my reels.
