oh my GAWD !!! What an airhead. Here it goes. LOL....I'll never hear the end of this.Went to the big (Shhhhhh-secret-shhhhhhhh) river to try to catch a wet-weather BWO hatch on my bamboo rod. What I did however was much different. No rain means no risers & no BWO. switched to nymphing. Rigged up the Sage 5wt & 3 casts into it caught a nice 6 lb hen on the stone fly! wow Awesome! Only a few more casts darn near same results! ANOTHER STEELHEAD! This NEVER happens to me. I decide to hang up the trout rod and just go Steelheading. Good idea. AGGGGGH! I caught(and landed) the biggest Steelhead I've ever seen. ever! I was so happy I had switched to the Spey rod because This fish would have CRUSHED the 5wt Sage. When it jumped I knew then that this was one of those magical fish you will only see pictures of. It had the 16ft 9wt Spey rod bending like a little noodle trout rod! My arm was hot. "Don't break off...dont break off" I keep saying. Without any one to help me land it, I had to keep my cool . If you've ever thought how silly somebody looks trying to land a MEGA-FISH while handling a 16ft rod this was the one to see! Fortunately, with help from strong knots & maxima, I landed this giant deep red fish. It was easily pushing 18 pounds! Whether it was one of the vaulted "Idaho Strays" or not, I don't know but I was sooooo Shocked and stoked to have been graced with that opportunity. Wild fish DO fight harder & wilder. WOW! What a great way to start the season. Unbelieveable. Fantastic. andy"ap emerger"
