Me \'n\' George
You know, I thought for a year before I bought a George Foreman Grill.
I've learned, over the years that gadgets like that are fun for a week or so, and then they are just in the way. They end up in garage sales a year later.
Not my George Foreman Grill! I'll tell you that, and this aint no advertisement!
I can't tell you how good fish is, cooked in these grills!
I got out a vac pack of Springer from last spring. The way it turned out, I couldn't tell it from fresh!
I seasoned it with seasoning salt. That's it! Just seasoning salt!
I sprayed the grill with Pam, and frankly, a little on the salmon too.
Slap that fillet on the hot grill, close it up. Set the timer for 5 minutes, and bingo! It was done to perfection, complete with the neato grill marks!!
Then... I had some prawns. I had tossed them in the same seasoning, and sprayed the grill again... Cooked them for one minute, just till they turned pink, and bingo again! Man, were they good!
Anyway, served dinner with rice, broccoli and hollandaise sauce. PERFECTION! Easy to clean up after, and you couldn't ask for better food!
I've also used a little cucumber, tomato and onion salsa on the salmon, made with a touch of rice wine. YUM!
And no calories for that whole dinner, with the salsa! You'd never know it!
Hint: To clean the grill after use, clean it hot with a paper towel. Be careful! I know it's dangerous, but it cleans so much easier hot. Wear a hotpad, and just wipe it clean with a little pam on the paper towel.
If you've been thinking of getting one, I highly recommend it.
Now you're grillin!

Re: Me \'n\' George
What a great idea I had not thought of using it like that. Oh wait (doh!) I need to go get it out of the pile of stuff for next years garage sale.
I'll try it on some shrimp tomorrow. Thanks Jennie
PS sorry I could not drop a fish over yesterday for the photo shoot, they were no where to be found.

Re: Me \'n\' George
You wouldn't believe the amount of time I went to Freddies, picked on up, put it in the cart, and at the register panicked. "I don't need this!" and I put it back.
One day, I just did it. I am really glad I did.
Steaks are amazing. Vegetables are great too. Just lightly oil them and grill away.
One thing: Don't try grilled cheese sandwiches... It squishes em!

Re: Me \'n\' George
We started with the smallest one with the bun warmer (bun warmer=useless) and it was great, if not small for our family of two adults and two under 6. For Christmas my wife got the big one that's one step below the thing that is indoor/outdoor. MUCH better. I cooked bacon with it tonight and it was fine.
Word of warning on it, though. Careful you don't overcook your meat. This thing really is fast and the times in the book are generally for inch-thick meat. It's easy to well-done everything in it, so be careful. I'm able to plug a meat thermometer through the side into the meat to watch the temp. Very recommended until you get good at it.
So far I've done burgers, dogs, sausages, links, steak, fish, bacon, and my wife does do grilled cheese for the kids. Yeah they get pretty flat but the kids don't care and it's danged quick. She tried french toast and while she said it was okay I urged her not to do it again.
Oh, and the plastic spatula is a joke. Really. Otherwise, very cool.

My daughter gave me a cedar plank for christmas. Old indian trick for baking fish. Not bad. I think I will try it again.

Re: Me \'n\' George
Yesterday before dinner I told my wife that I might want to try cooking some marinated chicken breasts on the waffle iron. I got one of those looks, so I didn't.
I still think it is a good idea, but now I am going to run down and get me a Georgie grill. Avoid those looks.
I know what u mean about the bun warmer, Geek. The one time I tried mine, I couldn't sit down for a week.

Re: Me \'n\' George
Ok, I know where to get a George Foreman Grill, but I'll need some salmon to test it out. So, who's gonna send me a vac-packed springer fillet?

Re: Me \'n\' George
Watch the Amazon.com Friday sales. They usually will be listed for $20, and they have free shipping over $25 so buy something else like a non-stick spatula or something.
If they don't have your color on sale this week, try next. They rotate.

Re: Me \'n\' George
i got a foreman grill a year or so ago and all i use it for is grilling sandwiches. i tried a steak in it once and i just didn't like the way it was cooked. i've heard a lot of people swear by them (but not at them).
i'm lucky though because my gas grill is right next to the patio door under a roof. i can bbq any time of year and stay dry.

Re: Me \'n\' George
I got the small one first and liked it so well that I got the family sized one .There is no comparison when it comes to cooking sausage on them. marinated deer and elk is unmatched also.

Jennie, my kids love those squished grilled cheese sandwiches  When the kids have friends over and I need 10 or 12 grilled cheese sandwiches these things rock

Re: Me \'n\' George
This is a good thread!
Does anyone have any George Foreman recipe ideas besides these?
Let me tell you, the prawns are the best I've had yet, so that's my top recipe.
I used some seasoning I got from .... dang, what is the guys name on here that makes bbq's and was at the tackle swap? I forgot!
Anyway, that's really good seasoning. I just sprinkled it on the prawns, cooked um for one minute and, "WE HAVE DINNER!"

Re: Me \'n\' George
Between my George Forman grill and my bread machine, I am a well fed batchelor. I really think that they are the greatest contraptions for a single guy who likes to eat well. I use mine a lot. I grilled some fresh steelhead the other night and it turned out really good. Pay attention to the times. Food cooks really fast... I also have just aquired his rotiserie(sp) oven. I have done roast, chicken and a med. turkey. All turned out really well.

Re: Me \'n\' George
I got the family size Foreman grill. I have found it useful for fish and chicken, but it is too hot for beef. The outside of beef gets overcooked, while the inside is cold (kind of like trying to cook potatoes in a campfire). The grill does an outstanding job on chicken breast, just make sure it is thawed all the way.
