Default Yaquina Diamondbacks

Went out with a buddy of mine this morning with the idea of drowning some mud shrimp and hopefully getting something besides bullheads. We launched around 7 and were fishing by 7:15. After a few minutes Tims' rod started to get the rapid taps of a bullhead. He checked his bait and low and behold a bullhead. He recast and his cell phone rang. His friend called from work asking if needed his spare anchor. He said no we are on the river fishing and that he got another anchor from someone else. Then my rod slowly went down once, twice and a third time. I picked up the rod and it pumped one more time. I reeled up the slack and set the hook. Tim said,"Gotta go we got a sturgeon on." There was instant weight on the line and it started to run. Tim had not caught one before and I offered him the rod. He said go ahead its' my boat and I'll get more chances. It was give and take for a few minutes and then my line went slack. Tim asked if he got off and then the fish broke water and went on another run. I got it to the boat and it did not like what it saw so it went back down to the bottom and sulked. With a little more pressure I got him to get of the bottom and up to the boat. He looked good and we got out the tape measure and 45". Grabbed him by the tail and bled him out and filled out my tag. Tim fished for a few more hours with nothing but bullheads. Not a bad way to start the week.

Good start to winter coastal sturgie!

Thanks for the report, T-bay should be ready to kick out a few, with all the freshwater coming into the estuary now.

It was on the incoming about 2 hours after the change. We had the sweet smell of the GP plant in our noses.
