Scott,
Be glad to show you some of my spots. Know spots on the Cowlitz, Lewis, and Sandy. Just have to be willing to go when the smelt are in. A couple of limits will give you bait for the year. Even a few to eat if you are into eating bait. Sure beats running out of sturgeon bait in December.

I was trained in smelt dipping by a local from Longview. He starts you out with a flat shovel, has you beat the water with it for a few minutes until you have entertained all the veterans, then shows you how to use the net!

2 years ago the main run was in the 3rd week of January, last year it was around valentines day for the cowlitz. The Sandy picked up good around the end of Feb. The smelt in the sandy were huge, and limits are much higher!

Although the Pilot runs come in a few weeks before the main runs, I wouldn't waste my time going for the pilot runs. Your will see alot of things on this board when the run is going good. You will also see some hoaxes of false information before the main run.

I like the shovel idea, I'm sure Bill has something similar in mind for me! But I will go anyway, so get out your cameras, might be a good photo op!

Thanks for the invite BRShooter, I will take you up on that!
