Default Recommended Ammo for Browning Maxus???

Well, I've put the first case of shells through my new Browning Maxus...
I started off with 3" Black Cloud #3 Steel Shot and it performed just "okay"...

I noticed that I got better results with the Invector Plus Modified Choke, where I'm normally using the Full. I would definitely use Black Cloud again, but I want to try something else for comparison... any other Maxus gunners out there with other preferred shells?

I'm also looking to move to an aftermarket choke tube - any ideas on this one?

Thanks,
Lexington

It really depends on what your hunting, a friend of mine has a Maxus and always use's the modified choke and it flat out rocks with Heavy Metal 3 1/2" BBB on geese! He tried the winchester and they sucked, didn't pattern well and seem to put alot of residue in his eyes while shooting. I would try them and also try kent fast steel, really can't go wrong with them as they do the trick and alot cheaper.

I shoot the SX3 which is the EXACT same gun as the Maxus only imported for Winchester. I shoot 3" oz 1 1/8 Kents without a problem. Very soft gun to shoot as well.

I also use a Briley light modified choke shooting ducks over decoys.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I picked up a box of Kent Faststeel and Winchester BlindSide in 3" #3s.
I'll be using these mostly for hunting ducks over decoys.

In regards to moving towards an aftermarket choke... I'm comparing the
Trulock, Patternmaster, Carlson Mid-Range and Briley (makers of the Browning Grand Passage). At this moment, I've seen more positive comments about the Briley chokes and am leaning that way.

I'll post with whatever finding I eventually come up with.

Thanks,
Lexington

I just got finished shooting up a box of the Blindside ammo. That stuff SUCKS. Huge waste of money, for me. It lost all knock down power at 30 yards Shot 2 different ducks at 35 yards sitting in the water and they just got up and flew away. Seemed to hit a bit left of my front bead for whatever reason. I cut open one of the shells to look at the bb's and wad. They are NOT stacked as they claim just dropped in like any other bb's would be. and there are 60-70 bb's in the 3in BB shells. I shoot a Benelli M2 with a long range Patternmaster. I normally shoot Kent Faststeel, it patterns best for my set up.

Patternmaster might not be the best choke for those loads. I believe the Blindside loads have a similar wad to those of black cloud and a few others. If so, the pattermaster will not allow the wad to perform correctly.

Just a thought.
