New Fish
Hi all,
Glad to join you fellow fishermen and fisherwomen in a great forum.
Here is my story. By the way, why do only handful of people acknowledge newcomers, especially after making them tell a story? I seldom see the moderators extend even a short welcome (except crabbait--good on you). So, I expect to see at least 500 replies on this.
It was a beautiful spring day at a lake stocked with trophy-sized rainbows up to 20 lbs., and depending on season, it's also stocked with striped bass, catfish and other species. We were fishing from the bank with Powerbait and night crawlers, along with a big crowd gathered next to us at this popular lake.
After four hours of non-action, the kids were getting restless, playing with driftwood and climbing the rocks, etc. So, at around noon, we decided to head home and go catch a movie. As we were breaking down the rods, a tanker truck appears next to us at the launch area and starts dumping fish into the lake. And the area near the launch is rippling with these drugged fish frantically moving around in circles. Few rednecks quickly change their gear and jumps on the boat ramp to go after these large trout. We ask the kids if they want to continue fishing or go see a movie, and the answer was a unanimous "Fish". Within an hour we all caught fish, including my daughter who caught a 16lb. trout on her spincast outfit with 6lb. test line. It sure was fun to see my daughter on an adrenaline rush, running down after the fish. Unfortunately, the redneck guys also scored with their oversize hooked lures, catching a 14lb. trout.
Now that the kids had their fill of excitement, they were ready to call it quits and still be able to go see that movie, so I started to breakdown their gear. All of a sudden, my son was yelling at me, saying, "look at your rod, mom!" One look at my rod, and I knew it was a big fish, but before I could reach it, the rod and the rod holder was getting dragged into the lake. Fortunately, my (ex) husband was able to jump into the lake and step on the rod and take control of the fish. He fought the fish and gradually backpedaled out of the lake to hand me the rod. Immediately, I felt the weight of the fish at the end of the line and I was losing line very fast. I yelled at a guy just launching his boat just 40 ft. away and he agreed to take me into his boat. We spent the next 45 minutes following the fish all around the lake and finally saw what it was when it surfaced near the original hooking point. To my surprise it was a stocked white sturgeon, about 6 ft. in length. Another 30 minutes passed before I decided that I would not be able to bring in the fish on my 8 lb. line, so we broke it off and I was still very satisfied for the experience. Unfortunately, the kids missed their movie

Welcome aboard! Nice story, and I know that was in Blue Lake, right?
But I have been surprised as to how many ifishers and lurkers read posts, even if they don't always reply.
Whether you get 500 replies or not, there will be more than 500 that will have read this thread and welcome you.
Especially those dang moderators! Just try to get something past them!

you sure that wasn't the pond up at Bonneville Hatchery?  Wow, this has turned out to be one of the most responded to "first timers" stories in quite some time. You not only turned some fishes heads, but some ifishers heads too! Good job and nice story, welcome aboard.
