I guess I have to welcome myself back to the Ifish board. I have been busy with life in general, was on the site quite a bit in early spring 2001, went thru a divorce and had to sell my driftboat to get into a new house. I am now re-married to a great gal that loves that I fish and hunt and do the things I love to do. As for a fishing story my favorite is my son's first steelhead caught driftfishing, not his first one ever but the first on corkie and yarn. It was on the South Santiam, we were in the Tire hole fishing next to my buddy Scott and his wife Melanie, we had anchored right down stream from them and were doing the corkie thing. Scott at the time was guiding so he had all his guide rods with him, my son was fishing with my '10 6" Berkley noodle rod. Scott told me to take one of his Loomis '8 ft spinning rods for him since he was only 9yrs old at the time.
While I was sitting there rigging this rod up for him low and behold a chrome bright Steelie come flying out of the water, of course I looked up at Scott to see if he was fighting the fish. About that time Ben say's hey dad I got a fish on I think? You guessed it he had stuck he but good! So I grab the net and step to the front of the boat to get ready to net his fish, and being that I am just a little guy, my weight up front pulled the anchor loose and we started to drift, I got that taken care of then the fish was right next to the boat so I went to net it and got the net tangled in the rod holder

. Got that taken care of and the fish came back for a second try and you guessed it this time I got the net in the oar lock

The fish takes off and makes a run and jumps and then turns and comes back to the boat and the third time was a charm

, after I got the fish in the net my son looks at me and says finally dad. I believe that is my most special moment on the river in the 9 years that I had my driftboat. Any way just want to get back into the scene and heckle some of the friends I have on this Board. Like Kruechief, willierower and Chinookie.
