Default alum. drift boat coatings?

Hi gang, I have been given two conflicting reports from neighbor anglers. One says I need to apply sometype of coating every couple of years on the bottom of the boat to help "prevent extra drag?" The other says "Ya heck no, aint no reason to apply any coating, it's just aluminum."
Now I'm curious. Do any of you alum.D boaters apply a compund or coating on the bottom of your boat?
Thanks in advance.

I think what you are refering to is either Gluv-It or Coat-it for coating the bottom. I don't know how much it actually reduces drag, but it does protect the bottom of the boat from rocks. Aluminum 'sticks' to rocks, and the coatings help the boat slide over the rocks. There have been some recent posts on re-doing bottoms. Pretty much make sure to remove all loose old coatings, mix coating and hardner WELL, do it with the boat and air temp as warm as possible so it can dry.

Do a search on Gluv-It or Coat-it

you will find all the answers you need.

When you put the coating on , a warm ambient temp is critical to cure.
