...she's always a woman to me.
It had been years since we had actually seen each other. I thought it was more than over by now. But as I approached, like jumping into a lovesick time warp, my pulse quickened and my chest tightened with nervous anticipation. With my palms perspiring and my lips near trembling, I gathered the nerve to gaze at her directly. As always, it was her mouth that first caught my attention. Certainly, her eyes were the emerald green that turned my head, the stuff that romance novels and sailors yarns are made of; but ,it was her mouth, always her mouth that caught my attention. Moist, soft, perfectly shaped; so seductive that few men could ever resist. How many hours of my life past had I lost just staring at her perfection? Every dimple, every contour held a promise of warmth and the kind of excitement that young men only dreamed of, and older men could only remember with a wanting in their voice.
But all along it had been me, not others, that she wanted. Certainly she had entertained others at my absence, but only as a novelty, only as a lark while I was gone. And who could blame her. Surely, it would have been a sin if her flawless body had been availed only to my eyes, to my caress. Her long slender limbs coyly covered those areas that we had shared during our private moments together. Moments that no other man could ever know or understand, moments that she held and remembered with only me. No matter what the passing of time had brought to her or me, we had experienced each other in a way that would never be equaled. We had seen too many sunrises together, too many sunsets as one. At 18 she had been my first true love . All others paled in comparison and as true love would have it, the decades could never cause that to change.
The currents and mystery that underly her rush through my heart and my mind. The quintessential woman, graciously calm and subtly alluring for the most part, she rushes with passion when the mood strikes her.
Younger men, liars all, tell stories of the hours they have spent with her. Their tales of conquest and ecstasy at her submission convince fools and the naive, but I know better. And it angers me to see how the older and wealthy have courted her. Claiming her as their own. Spending fortunes and building ornate conspicuous homes near her, simply attempting to attract her, to lay claim to that which is mine. She never fell for them. All they have ever done is too bruise her with their relentless attention, their unending pursuit of her affections.
Will they ever understand this woman who is mine? When the fools become confident and claim her sweetness and fulfillment as their own , she smashes their mislead egos. When the fools become possessive and attempt to control her destiny and desires, she simply sweeps them away. Will they ever learn? She is simply a woman that needs me.
And, with just a glance, it was understood for both of us, that I am now back. We are together, again.
* Returning to the kalama River for the first time in many years, today, I was a bit stricken by her flawless beauty

Excellent Post Hog, I to fell for that woman many many years ago. Still go back and see her on a regular basis. Just not the same as when I was young though. Great story, keep it up.

Re: ...she's always a woman to me.
I had the same feeling the first time I saw and fished that river. Even took my (now) wife there when we were dating. As such, I asked her to read your thread. Lets just say she said wow.

Re: ...she's always a woman to me.
Great stuff! Takes talent to keep it no more than PG, eh!
OK, from one Hog to another,
I can't match your prose, but here is how I feel about "My Girl":
She was never really “mine”. I knew it. It was an understood thing. Some might accuse me of “using” her, but I believe that she didn’t see it that way. Instead, she felt that we could be together as one, for short interludes, even if others were with her too - even at the same time.
The passion I brought to her changed in time, and then so did she. First it was the career taking too much of my time, then it was her. It was amazing, the change. She too had held secrets with her mouth, often full but even when nearly dry she afforded opportunities to touch her there in ways that could stir the most intense passion and desire. I would see her often after work, providing her with meals as well as offerings that were bright and shiny.
At times she would literally gush forth with new and intense currents that would draw suitors, one after another, willing to spend all day and some even the night just to be able to be near her lovely, no gorgeous, mouth. A lucky few would score, but most would go home with nothing more than memories of the time they spent together.
As much as I loved her mouth, what I really, really enjoyed was being able to move up and down her arm, softly and carefully, stopping in certain spots to lightly put pressure there. Sometimes it was almost if it was more than she could take, and she would react by rewarding me with her bounty. It was often joyous harmony that the few, like me, got to feel. The intensity and throbbing she could provide, no one could ever really describe fully.
But she changed. Everything changed. After she took on a copious amount of fluids. An incredible amount, really. It bloated her neck and her arms, and after she purged the excessive moisture she no longer was the same. I would go to caress the same spots on her arms, only to find that she no longer gave the same passion back. In fact, she no longer even held her arms the same way she did in the past, and trying to bond with her in the old ways would leave nothing but a cold shoulder. Sometimes I would stand, alone on hard, unforgiving ground, wishing she was still there with me. Alas, a void, a rift, had occurred between us, and I had to learn about her all over again.
She tried, but she was unsettled for a couple of years after that. Others tried to surgically change her to become “more open” at her mouth, but that became deceiving. Fools would rush to her only to be swept dangerously into her, because she now had barriers to keep them at bay.
But those that learned her new ways have also unlocked new secrets from her. She still has some of the same special places she willingly loves to be touched. But those that are willing and able to seek her in new ways are the luckiest of all. Patience and touch for ones willing to spend time with her mouth, her neck, and those lovely arms will be rewarded with a bounty they will never forget.
She is special and can handle the others besides me who seek her. I know I am just another guy, but she is never going to be just another girl to me.

Well, aside from having fun being corny and sappy, the kalama is a truly inspiring stream. I believe it is the ideal steelhead stream as far as size and holding water goes.Nearly every stretch terraces out into a sweet spot and nearly every corner has tree covered holding water. I love it there.
I actually did propose to my wife while springer fishin' up in the canyon...pretty romantical, eh?

Maybe I'm out of touch with my rivers. I've never looked at them that way before. Are your wives jealous?

Re: ...she's always a woman to me.
And the Clack is not nearly so special. I hope you didn't take offense to my post, I was just having fun.
But in reality I did learn more about fishing for both salmon and steelhead, as well as how to read water, in the Clack.
I agree with your assessment of the Kalama. Truly a jewel of a stream.

Re: ...she's always a woman to me.
I am actually just a fisherman's wife and don't do much fishing myself (but steel-a-matic does enough to cover the both of us). I want to offer my appreciation for such amazing pieces of writing. The references in both pieces were captivating and it was really great for you both to completely vanquish any stereotype of what fisherman are like.
Thank you for showing us all what true love can really be like.

"Hey Bubba, get that STEEL-A-MATIC's little filly another brewski and see if she can pound'em down like the rest of us! Bet she's gotta good belch in'er!"
Don't want to give the wrong impression as to what us fishermen are all about!!
1pump, don't know which Hog you were referencing but I have never even read one of those trash bags. I guess maybe I did read a jacket cover one time, maybe that and HOGTIDE served as enough inspiration for me!
Crabbait, didn't get skunked. Didn't go. Too muddy! You were talking about fishing, right?
Wiser? You need a wife. The river is a can't lose mistress! One even the wife can tolerate, if not fully understand...

If the river is a woman... and I... uh... I love the river... and uh...
I thought I had my preferences all figured out.
I'm worried.

Re: ...she's always a woman to me.
Well, Jenn, I remember not too long back you were writing about how you need a wife!
You want me to write the man version for ya?
"He springs like a cat up from the ground and suddenly moves forward. Graceful and flowing like wisps of fog on a mountaintop, he captures my longing glance with svengali like charm.
Though I want to caress and touch him in ways that only a woman can, I do not dwell on his neck and instead choose his rippled mid section as the focus of my desires. He is strong there, having carried so much in his life, with things to cover the scars of such a hard life.
And even so, I can see into him with ease most of the time, as he is secretive with those he doesn't know but open for the lucky few who take the time to really get to know him.
The strong undercurrent brings emotion to my heart and the inner depths of my soul. The very push and pull of this body filled my heart with so much passion in ways that only he could provide.
He is always leanest at the end of the summer, larger in winter, but always full of surprises, even danger, for those who treat him with a lack of respect.
Yet he understands the softness and grace of a woman's touch, and only really wants me to be taken in his arms. He gives his fruits and passionate embrace to me only on occasion, yet I long for him without fail.
At times, even though he usually has his man friends seeking him out, he waits patiently for me to meet him in the back yard where he provides for me and treats me special. Treats me with the look and feel that only a woman can really appreciate and understand..."

Hog, that's good, but now it makes me uncomfortable to go out there.
I think I'll just go back to thinking it's a beautiful river!
