I was up in the gorge on sunday, what a shaker rodeo. I just had some buddies with me instead of paying customers and decided to go up there instead of portland area. I figured the tides werent good downriver and we had a window of good weather for the gorge. the weather was good and it was a good thing that I wasnt charging anyone for this trip because the fishing stunk. I saw a sea lion working up there and have seen them down at t6 and kp. with the abosolute lack of quality fish up there ( if they are there I usaully find them ) and the sea lions working I would say that the keepers are on the move to intercept the smelt downriver.

We were above Bonneville and had the same experience... 13 shakers, with the only 'close' one being 38". Was nice to have a lot of action, but need for their grandmas & grandpas to start biting

As usual, the weather was opposite of the NOAA forecast... Was supposed to be winding in the AM, calmer, and then howling by the late afternoon. Ended up being a lake by 3 PM. Thank goodness for that, as it was a nice change of pace to pull the anchor with no waves.

Will give it another go on New Year's Day.

Hey BiteMe,
You must not always find the fish. We were up there just above Horsetail and caught two keepers and lost another in the 50's (I'm guessing) We did have to wade through the shakers though. We caught over 50 of them. Were you in the sled guide boat, I thought there was only one of them there on Sunday, at least that passed us heading down river. The checker said there were 4 keepers for 27 boats.
It seems like boats always do better up there on Saturdays. Maybe it is a coincidence but I have noticed that the keeper ratio is better on Saturdays, like last week 22 keepers for 26 boats on Sat. and 6 keepers for that 28 boats on Sunday. This is with very similiar weather each day. Are the more active keepers in the area caught with all of the pressure on Sat. I have seen this trend for a few years now. What is your opinion?

Fished Kelley Point and upstream on Sunday catching around 20 shakers, a couple in the 36" range and a 44" keeper. Used smelt and squid, catching the keeper on squid.

Have a friend from Germany coming to visit over the weekend. She wants to do something like fishing or crabbing. All the rain isn't going to do the crabbing much good. Might have to take her up for a gator trip. Hopefully we can get her some action on shakers at least.
