My b-day fishing report, a day to remember
Well, it was my b-day today. 12/29/85, was born 23 min after midnight.
Well, I wanted to go fishing today. So I went fishing down at an old zipper lip spot on the Lewis River.
Started off fishing at about sun up or so. First hole, fish on. Not a bad fish, well a bad fish cause I didn't want it. It looked to be a summer run buck. About 10 to 12 pound hatchery buck steelhead. Released that fish.
Went right back up to that same hole were I got the one before. Two passes later, fish on! Oh and its a chromer. This one was about the same size, 10 to 12 pounds and bright. With the water high I'm trying to find a spot to bank this fish. Well, the fish takes me way down stream and I get to a good spot to bank it. Nope, fish does not like that so I end up keep going down stream some more. Looks like I can bank this fish down there. So on 10 pound main line and 8 pound leader line the fish is just about done for. I'm getting ready to pull this fish right up on to the bank when my line go slack. My leader line snapped. Oh well, I've lost a lot bigger ones before.
Walk back up stream to the same hole and make a few more passes with nothing. So I walk up to the next good hole. First pass, Fish on! and its a big one. OMG, it is VERY BIG. This fish just starts spooling up stream and did not stop. So I run up there, get back up on it and was thinking that this fish is not much of a fighter, looks like I'm going to be able to bank this fish right here right now. Go to bank the fish, nope, that fish anit gonna be banked to day. So I fight this big fish some more, still using 10 pound main line with 8 pound leader line. Well, now this fish is going back down stream. So this fish ends up running another 100 or so feet off my reel back down to the same hole were I hooked him to begin with. Now look who's winning, me! Shoot, it has an extra fin, D*@&it, shoot, and every not so good word you can think of. Get the fish in real shallow water, get a hold of it, pop the hook out of his mouth. Get a quick measure and let it go. Now people, before you go off on me for getting a native fish and then release it, this fish never left the water, just wanted to let you all know that.
This big fish had a length of 39 inches and had a girth of about 20 inches. One fat big native buck steelhead.
After that I never got hooked into any thing in any of the other holes.
One good day of fishing though. My b-day and my biggest steelhead to this date so far!
Seen a good amount of fish banked to day on the North side of the river. Seen the bobber and jig fishermen were doing good in the morning.

Good job King Fisher85 , Tilla would be proud of you. We will see if you can say the same about him when he gets home from his fishing excursion.

Re: My b-day fishing report, a day to remember
Happy Bday, Sounds like you had fun even if you had to let one go. I just want to hook a steel, release or not. My fishing nut son in law keeps telling me you have to have fishing stuff in the water to catch fish. Any thing to that? THE THRILL ! !
