Default Eagle Creek

Does anyone on here know if there is a number to the hatchery on eagle creek(clacksys)? I am not even sure if they have a message or anything but it would be cool to know if there are fish in the system before heading up there. Thanks for any help.

Might give this # a try. Don't know how old it is but it's from the Oregon Dept. of Interior's web site. http://pacific.fws.gov/visitor/oregon.html

Let us know what you find out.

They have a number but Ive only got an answering machine. This was a year or two ago, I left a message even with no reply. I havent made it the hatchery this year but was told on 12/9 by a fish and game personel that they had twelve fish in the trap. We fished hard early sunday with only one fish turned and lost. I sat at the lower ladder for 15 min. and saw two fish one holding and one moving along. There are some fish around and will only get hotter with these rains!!!!

I've never had much luck fishing Eagle Creek. No matter how little weight I use it gets suck on the bottom, and it doesn't seem deep enough to bobber and jig it. Has anyone got any tips for fishing this sort of water?

I always carry one of those cheep bobbers that we use for trout. You can put that on with a small glob of eggs or a sand shrimp and fish it in the shallow ripples. Works well when I tend to get hung up with light lead.

The phone number for Eagle Creek National Fish Hatchery is (503) 630-6270. The manager is Doug Dysart and the assistant manager is Steve Turner.

They can tell you what they have in the raceways and what they normally get this time of year. But they might be hesitant to predict what is currently in either Eagle Creek itself or the Clackamas in general.

Maybe see you up there SB. Look for a Red Nissan Pickup. I'll be up there for the first time exploring the area and floating a few jigs. Good luck,

RSF,
Try this for your hanging up problems.
Have you ever seen the hogline below the I-205 bridge on the Willamette?? Alot of guys will be backbouncing eggs for springers. You will see them working there rod tip up and down a few inches. I'm not much of a boat fisherman, so I'm no expert on backbouncing.
Point is a guide I fished with D. Dobson showed me to twitch my rod tip just a bit when drifting a spot where you hang up alot. If you keep slack out of your line then when you twitch, your wieght will want to keep raising up off the bottom then fall back down. You will get alot less hang ups. You will need to learn the movement.
I've watched thease guys and the can talk, drink beer & answer there cell phone while keeping a perfect movment. It's a subtle movement, not to fast or herky jerky. If you've never done it, if you know a boater he'll dail yuo in.
